Drums - getting them to sound cohesive - May 01, 12 12:04 PM ( #1 )
I'm using kit pieces from different kits, they do go together but they don't have that overall 'came from the same kit' sound. They're dry, so I can give them a global treatment if I only knew what to do. The same reverb is helping but they still sound too pristine and off in their own space. Anyone? Thanks - rev

You may need to process each one different;lty, since there form different sets. Using a global effect may not help you. Trial and error is the best way to figure this out, as there is not right way to do it. I would just start going at it until it sounds good..

You could apply the Mixer settings to all the kit pieces in the same tool if you could get the sounds into the tool. That would be the closest to a 'how to' that I can think of - but it's not always possible and I really wasn't in the mood to start reading manuals. BFD2 allows you to use sounds from other sources, for example but I don't think you can with Superior Drummer.

Running them all into a common (short) reverb will help. If the different instruments are not equally dry, tweak the send levels until they sound like they're in the same space. Compression may help, too. Give the free LoudMax limiter a try.

BTW, Superior lets you mix external samples too.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
