Is A Mogami 2534 cable considered "balanced"?

I am a beginner on a UA-25EX, and I'm making a cheat sheet for the settings on my interface. The user manual says that the combo input jacks "support either balanced or unbalanced connections," and that I should "make connections after first checking the wiring diagrams of other equipment you intend to connect." So I am wondering: a) is the Mogami 2534 cable I'm plugging into my guitar "balanced"? and b) what other equipment do I need to be checking, and what should I check it for? Thanks! -Tricia

Actually, there is a problem with this - almost definitely your guitar output jack is unbalanced. At that point it does not matter whether you plug in a balanced TRS cable or an unbalanced TS 1/4" guitar cable. The result will be the same - you are using an unbalanced input. It's a confusing topic in some ways, but what a balanced input really means is that there are two signals, one essentially positive in polarity and one negative in polarity. They get combined in a way that subtracts interference and noise(this is called "common mode rejection") and leaves you with more of the signal and less of the noise. A guitar output is unbalanced, so the cable and the input is irrelevant. If you are to get a balanced connection, both the output and the input and the cable all have to be balanced. If any of these components are unbalanced, you have an unbalanced signal.
