pentagon 1

Learning some new toys in sonar 8.5.3. Am using it in 64 bit now.

Working with Pentagon 1, and I like a lot of the sounds, but when I select under simulation anything, it shuts off the sound completely

After about a minute, horrendous sound comes out, with out me touching anything.

Am trying to see what the different "simulations" sound like such as valley and generic amp and all

But none of them work. Has anybody else had this happen?

Just did a quick test with the Radio simulator, and it worked without issues. I was going to suggest you check the Pentagon1.DLL version, but mine's 1.5.0.0, Modified 9/13/2005, so it seems unlikely there's a bad version floating around.

Maybe something else in your project that Pentagon doesn't get along with...?

hi brundlefly..  only thing I have loaded is the pentagon. It works fine until I use the simulator, when I click on what I want to try in the simulator I get a nasty click, then no sound. Then about a minute later an awful sound from the pentagon.. with out me clicking or playing anything on the keyboard. Below are my specs

    Windows Vista sp2 64 bit
    Sonar Producer 8.5.3
    M-Audio oxygen 8
    M-Audio delta 44

All drivers are up to date

I'm on XP but I'll suggest you turn off the 64 Double Precision Engine in Sonar if it's on.  It's under Options->Audio somewhere (64bit DP).  Make sure it's unchecked and see if that solves it.

What do you mean sound even when not playing?

Btw, you're NOT using the DXi version right?

There's a VST version of Pentagon? I only have the DXi, and it works in x64.

Okay, so I see on the Cakewalk site that there is a VST version of Pentagon1. But I'm guessing it's still x86, whereas the DXi must have been ported, or it wouldn't run under x64, right? Does your VSTi load with Bitbridge, or is it native x64?

I don't recall ever having an option of which flavor to install, so did I just miss that or do you have to install some product/version other than SONAR 8+ to get the VST?

Dave, if you're asking me -- I am still on 32bit.  So I don't have half of the problems others seem to.  I guess those extra 32bits take some work  ;)

Yeah, I didn't check to see if you were one of the hold-outs. Sometimes kind of wish I were - mostly because my interface drivers are not good under x64 - but thing are mostly good here. And, as I mentioned in my first post, the Pentagon DXi is working fine under x64 for me.

Do you mean windows x64 and Sonar 32 or Sonar 64? I would think that the plugins will run within the host regardless of the operating system, i. e. 32 bit plugin with 32 bit Sonar.

The main reason I'm a hold-out is because of the sheer amount of time I'd have to invest to go to 64bit OS.   I'd want to have a totally clean system, and that means those hours will be gone from life just installing it.   And, then there's the gazillion plugins I have and would need to reauthorize.  And then there's the setups, and on and on and on - Not to mention any compatibility issues that arise!

Plus - I find no pressing need.   With only 4G RAM, I can load Kontakt 4, Aria Player full strings or PLAY full strings, Trilian and/or Omnisphere, Maschine, and more -- without a hiccup.    And that's without freezing anything!

So sure one day I'll go 64bit.   But not today ;)

BTW, there were updates to Pentagon so it's possible the OP has one of the older versions laying around and Sonar is picking it up.

Yes, I'm running SONAR 8.5.3 x64, and I assume that's what the OP meant by "Am using it in 64-bit now".

I totally understand. I did it, because I was already upgrading to a Quad Core, and installing Win 7. The MB/CPU upgrade did not actually necessitate reinstalling or upgrading my XP environment, but I got a deal buying Win 7 bundled with the CPU, and, as mentioned elsewhere, the OEM copy of Win 7 did not offer a 32-bit installation, so my fate was sealed.

ok.. I took the check mark out of where you said.. by sound I mean the pentagon starts making noises.. with out me touching a key on my midi keyboard, or it running. I do not see bitbridge loading with it, but to be honest I don't see bit bridge loading with any of the synths. I used to when I was using sonar 6.2, but now with 8.5.3 64 bit sonar and vista 64 bit, I don't see bitbridge at all.
