Dimension Pro is not properly installed.
Hello, New PE user here with installation problems starting Sonar and inserting Dimension Pro. I am running Vista 64 bit and am using the 32-bit Sonar binaries (because I read that the 64 bit binaries when using bitbridge cannot save VST presets). Anyway I already searched the forum and reinstalled Sonar as Administrator (even though my account has Administrator). I also did the same with Dimension Pro. I updated Sonar to 8.2 but still get the same error message when I try to insert Dimension in a project. Can somebody help me ?

I'm having installation and registering problems with Sonar 8 and also with using Dimension Pro. I am running Vista 64 and I updated Sonar to 8.2. FWIW, I've been using Project5/Dim Pro for several years. I've searched the FAQ and this forum but I'm unable to find anything on this condition... TIA,

DP 64-bit running fine in Sonar 8/64 on my Vista 64 system. Make sure it's in this folder: C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Dimension Pro64.dll If you don't see the "64" in the dll filename, it means you've installed the 32-bit version.

I don't think I explained myself very well. Although I am running a 64-bit OS, I want to use the 32-bit version of Sonar and its bundled content.

DP/64 works fine and it uses more ram and more efficiently. OK, this is what you're saying in your first post: "I read that the 64 bit binaries when using bitbridge cannot save VST presets" But it doesn't really make sense, since 64-bit binaries don't use bitbridge, because they're already 64-bit.

I had that problem after messing in the registry. I wiped and reinstalled the (Vista x64) OS, then reinstalled my Cake apps and everything worked.

I am using 32-bit Sonar because some of my VSTs only offer 32-bit version (Ivory, Kontakt) and when using bitbridge it is my understanding that preset-profiles cannot be saved. Correct me if I am wrong. I'm running Kontakt 3 through bitbridge and I have no problems saving preset-profiles. I'm also using other 32-bit VST's and everything is working fine. As for Ivory, they have a 64-bit beta that works fine (email them and they'll send it to you.) I'm currently using it and it uses more ram and more efficiently, which is a boon when you're loading a 19-gb piano...

Since you want to use the 32 bit version of Dim Pro, make sure u dont install the DXI x64 version of Dim Pro. Install the VST 32 bit version of Dim Pro. Also, If I recall correctly. you get that Dim Pro not installed error. when you have User Account Control on. Check and see if UAC is on. If on turn it off, restart the PC, and try to load Dim Pro again, once you insure the 32 bit version of Dim Pro is installed. Hope this helps.

I already have UAC turned off (it's the 1st thing I do when installing Vista). As for uninstalling the 64 bit Dimension Pro DXTi is it a simple matter of removing the 64bit dll in C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\ ? Or is there another way I should be removing the 64bit version of Dimension Pro ? After that How do I install the 32bit version ? Is it simply a matter of leaving the 32bit dll file in place ? Thanks.

I had similar problems a few months ago with Rapture download version in Vista ("not properly installed, please re-install from cd") although I had installed both softwares as administrator, and out of memory they were solved by going to the Sonar.exe properties (right click), and set it up to "run this software as adminsitrator" in compatibility page. Hope it will do the trick !

The option to run as administrator in the properties dialogue is greyed-out, probably because my account has administrator privileges already.

To select Run As Administrator for the SONAR shortcut. rightclick the SONAR shortcut. select properties. select the shortcut tab, select the Advanced button. and then you should be able to select Run As Administrator.

Go to \users\your_name\application data\microsoft\crypto\rsa and delete everything in there, then re-install Dim Pro. UPDATE: MurMan voiced a valid concern about doing this. See his comments below.

Thanks. That did it and I’ve had some luck registering and with importing MIDI files. However, now I can’t get S8PE (Sonar 8 Producer Edition) to open any of the Dim Pro instruments. I can see that they’re (Dim Pro) installed into the X-64 folder and I can see the Rapture instruments in the project files included with the program. I also can’t [SAVE] any files as the path is invalid. I’ve read the Help files and I’m stuck. Any help is appreciated.

What problem does that solve and what other applications would be effected by doing this ? Not as extreme as it sounds. If you're nervous about it, move the files to another location so you can restore them if necessary. I struggled with the "Dim Pro not correctly installed" problem for a month before finally resolving it. CW support was no help, suggesting only that I run SONAR as Administrator, not an acceptable solution. I'd uninstalled it, deleted the registry keys and re-installed it several times under both my normal Windows login and as Administrator. I'd just decided Dim Pro wasn't worth the effort. It was a conversation with Willy Jones of Cakewalk at NAMM that led to this resolution.

Update: After reinstalling DM Pro and the additional content DVD from Sonar, Sonar still complained upon startup about DM Pro. I applied all patches to DM Pro and Sonar still complained upon startup. After clicking past the errors I was able to insert the vst plugin, but not the DXTi. I will have to use the VSTi version until Cakewalk pulls their heard from their rears and fixes this problem.

Don't worry about it. You're not missing anything by using a VST version rather than the DX version.

ORIGINAL: bitflipper Go to \users\your_name\application data\microsoft\crypto\rsa and delete everything in there, then re-install Dim Pro. Hey bitflipper, I can't let this one pass because this is really dangerous. This folder contains all of the persisted crypto containers for the user. (These containers hold encrypted RSA-type key-pairs.) Most applications that use encryption will create a named crypto container and use the keys within it to encrypt/decrypt license info and application data. (Actually, these keys are used as the key-encrypting key, but that's another story.) Blindly wiping out these files will break every application that has created a container. If the application has encrypted data using these keys, the data is unrecoverable without the exact key used to encrypt it. There may be a reason why one needs to remove the container that DP created in order to fix an installation problem. If so, you need to examine the container file to make sure that you're deleting only the container that DP created. There are utilities that let you selectively delete named containers. (The name is also viewable at location x28 in the file header.) Bottom line, unless you really know what you're doing, don't ever delete any crypto files unless being directed by competent tech support. Murray

You're absolutely right. There could be repercussions, although I had none. I initially only deleted the container for Dim Pro, the name of which I determined by tracing its execution with Process Monitor. I didn't want to explain all that to the OP, though, and if it's a dedicated DAW it's unlikely there is anything in there that won't be automatically created on demand. Dim Pro, for example, creates the key the first time it runs. To test this presumption, I copied the entire contents of the RSA folder to a temporary location and then deleted all the files. All the software I use on this computer continued to work just fine. Some of the encrypted files automatically reappeared while others, presumably orphans, did not. But again, you're quite right. If the OP has, say, an encrypted database he could get into trouble. And thanks for the offset 0x28 tip, that would have saved me some time!
