Well, the price tag sure makes it attractive!

Hey Andrew - if you're still around - who is the targeted user for this? For example I can play and create my own drum, bass, EP, and string parts, and I own DimPro and Rapture. I like the bass sounds especially on this new software, but I wonder if I already own 'em with DimPro? I might use some of the drum patterns, but that would be it. I would hardly ever use the instrument patterns.

The drum thing looks and sounds similar to the philosophy of Session Drummer 2. Preset drum kits and associated patterns. Again, this may be something I would use a little of, but I also own Battery 3, so I have plenty of good drum kits. Mainly it would be the patterns.

Not dissing the product in any way. Looks to fill a great need. Just wondering if it's right for me?

Judging from the sound samples, I'd say it's not targetting more advanced users.

    Alright, you got me.
    I'll buy that one... $49.

I'll do that just to have easy backing to learn the keyboard better.

You guys... - always getting my money.

In case you're at all interested in Cakewalk's new SI instruments and would like to hear what they sound like from someone that's not Cakewalk, I did this quick and dirty demo: http://www.pantanosoftware.com/Music.html. Choose "SI Demo.mp3". It uses all four instruments and clips supplied with them. Nothing too fancy but I think you can get an idea how it sounds. The realistic graphics are not as distracting as I thought they would be and I like the piano...somebody else will have to comment on the strings. They sound good in context, but I isn't the expert.

PS _ I've cross-posted this to a couple of forums. Sorry in advance for that if it was uncool.

Thanks for providing that mmarsh. I know they're only $49, but I wish there was a demo or something. I would like to see how the Rhodes sounds. That would clinch it for me.

yep, I want to hear the rhodes in action too... you can't judge rhodes from the sneak trailer, they play chords at low velocity.

On the otherhand, it would be quite absurt to expect the same level of playability from it than from lounge Lizard, judging the price difference.

Nick, there's e-piano in that short demo I posted. I initially liked the sound, but it's actually only OK. Nowhere close to Lounge Lizard, but usable in context. It has thre "pedals" you can use: distortion, chorus, and trem. The trem does not seem to pan :( and there's no phaser :( :( I'd say the SI's are pretty good for the price and sound decent in context. The violin is not great, though: screechy and noisy. I think the bass is useful.

Mike are the patterns pretty much the ones that are already in P5?

Also are the strings the same or different then those offered in DimensionPro?

How does the Drums compare to Session Drummer in Sonar?

I realize these are picky questions but for me the strings and drums are the reason I would buy this. I dont really need the Rhodes, and the base is ok but I have lots of nice base banks in Dimension and Rapture

Here is an intersting thought. Do you think this was origionally slated to be released with P5 v2.5 update?

What this does is makes it so you can have some of the pattern functionality in other programs that is available in P5.

I am surprised they dont have a banks list and a more detailed specs list.

I know its a great price but I dont want to get it just to get it either. If I dont need it then it makes no sense to do that.

I like the cool interface, the way you can see the instruments play. It reminds me of the intro to the Kansas Device Voice Drum DVD where they had a similar type thing at the start with robotic musicians.

Hmm can't say I like it.

Looks like they took several of the P5 banks
Several of the string sounds and drum sounds from Session Drummer and sounds for Base from Dimension and put them with a spiffy interface. So what is the value ad? What is different from
    Dimension Pro Strings
    Dimension Pro Base
Dimension Pro drum sets and Session Drummer
    and
Project 5 Patterns for all these that most of us all ready have...
Will I get it, depends on what the answers are to these questions.
I will say it definitely has a Cool factor to it..

Yeah, I think I'm gonna pass. Will just use Dimension LE if I need a "lite" synth to bang out some parts.

I'll take 'em one at a time, in order:

No, the patterns are different and not as many
The strings are different sounding to my ears, and not as good
I prefer Session Drummer, though I will probably find some use for SI Drums
I have no way of knowing!
You can always ReWire P5 into your particular host. I do this all the time with Sonar.

I had to go from IE6 to IE7 to get the FTP downloads to work.

Email cake support and they'll reset your download max count type thing.
