Sonitus EQ - Clicks when using envelopes

Another Sonar 5 PE little quirk that has been bugging me...

If I use an envelope to automate Sonitus EQ, (say I want to punch in and out very quickly a low cut to get rid of a 'pop'), if I set a steep/vertical 'jump' between nodes on the envelope I get audible clicks.
This also happens when you automate to 'punch in/out' to turn on/off one of the EQ filters/bands.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Many, perhaps most VSTs are prone to clicks on sudden envelope changes. It's something you want to avoid. A fast logarithmic change can be just as effective as a vertical jump and may not show that symptom. The other approach would be to move the jump to the nearest zero-crossing, that might eliminate the click.

EDIT:
I handle pops with an external wave editor (Audition) that lets you pull out specific frequencies with great precision.

Also, it could be your midi buffers need to be larger if it's not there in a mixdown... but if it's there during mixdown then it's definitely what bitflipper mentions. Especially with turning the bands on and off, you'll hear a pop if they're not at zero. Try ramping them to zero instead of turning them off. Also referring to the steep jump, make it less steep and see if it sounds okay... if not, re-take the part.

Or, why not use Sonitus Multiband? That's one of it's main uses...

ah the old 'spend more money' option, it's always the best

Thanks for the tips fellas

I normally avoid the "spend more money" option, as it's a bottomless tarpit of promises. But not in this case. A wave editor is not a luxury, it's an essential piece in an audio craftsman's toolkit.
