Spectrasonics Atmosphere & Trilogy on Vista 64

I just purchased a new laptop with Vista 64 Bit, and Producer 7

4GB Ram, Motu 828 mkII sound card

I installed both trilogy and Atmosphere from spectrasonics. But whenever i do a scan for vst's it finds them and just stops at these programs, and crashes. it only does it with these 2 programs. These programs worked fine on windows xp 32, with sonar 4.

Since they are pretty much the same module program and they are acting the same way im lead to believe it has something to do with either vista 64 or Sonar 7 producer?

Has anyone else had similair issues?

I am running Atmosphere fine here in 64 bit Vista and Sonar 7 64 bit. You might try moving the .dlls for these programs into the default directory for Sonar VSTs. That is a long shot however. Not sure what else would cause this.

    Gear: A bunch of stuff.

Really? I just installed the Sonar 7.01 update and now it seems to detect trilogy... and i now see it in my vst list but for some reason it crashes when i try to launch it/

Did you install the 7.01 update? if so did they work before the update?

    Hi-

FWIW, Trilogy works fine here with 7.0.1, XP Pro SP2.

Hi , I had a similar problem. It might have to do with the fact that the first initialisation screen pop-up isn't allowed for some reason. Here's my workaround. http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.asp?m=1185845

    Hey Yogi,

I think you are right, I thought that maybe my windows account wasnt the administrator, but that wasnt the problem. I also tried to run sonar as administrator.

My problem is i dont own cubase... Is there another way to authorize the program?

    Thanks alot

i have had no issues with auth screens from Spectra, NI, etc. Try disabling UAC in Vista.

    Hey Lion,

Thanks for the reply, I am starting to believe all my problems related to Sonar, and Vst's ect are all related to some type of restriction in Vista.

I think that was the key i was missing, I'm gonna try right now

Excellent. For as useful as UAC is in theory, it is a real pain in the arse for most users, especially us DAW users. Good luck bro, and remember, the only good UAC is a disabled UAC.

    Damn!

    Good news and Bad news......

Good news is, Turning off the UAC fixed and issue i was having with dragging and dropping midi files from the vst interfaces of rmx and ezdrummer to the sonar tracks. Thanks Alot!

Bad news is, Trilogy still hangs the PC, when it scans for it.....

    Anyone have any other ideas?

Are you using the 1.2 version of Trilogy? Hree's an idea. Download the demo of FL Studio at www.fruityloops.com or www.tucows.com and authorize it in there. also, in sonar make sure that "Rescan Failed Plugins" is enabled in the VST wizard.

I will try that as a last resort, it looks like there is a solution to this problem, but unfortunatly i cannot access it...

The solution to this problem is posted on the Spectrasonics knowledge base under "Windows Vista Authorization Problems." Registered users can check it out by going to:

    Hi PistolPete,

I'm sure my solution will work, but since you don't own CUbase LE, I could suggest using a freeware DAW to at least get the plug ins properly authorised.

By the way, when confrontend with my problem, I also tried the suggestion on the Spectrasonics site, but that didn't work for me.

    Good luck!

    Hey Pete,

What I meant with 'suggestion' was the solution Spectrasonics offers to this problem. They advise you to 'run as administrator'. I tried that, but it didn't solve my problem at the time.

My workaround was the solution to my problem: using Cubase LE or any other DAW (besides Sonar) to get your plugins authorised. Once this has happened, they will pose no problem being opened within Sonar 7 (64 bit) on Windows Vista x64.

I haven't tried getting the plugs authorised within Sonar 7 (32 bit). I'm not sure where the problem lies (Sonar or Vista).

Let me know when and how you solved the problem!

After about 3 hours trying to figure this thing out. I gave up....

And thats when I solved the problem by a fluke!

As I was loading up Sonar to remove the Spectrasonics Folder from the vst folders. The Trilogy Authorization screen showed up!!!!!!

I couldnt believe my eyes! So i plugged the proper key into trilogy and it worked. Next i added the atmosphere folder vst, and did a scan unfortunatly the same thing happened again.... it hung....

So I thought why did the trilogy work that one time.... and then it hit me!

I have this really wierd habbit of dragging the mouse around objects ect while im waiting or something is loading....

So when I loaded atmoshere I keep dragging the mouse around the sonar load splash screne, as if selecting a bunch of files. except it would be like selecting the splash screne(hope that makes sence). for some reason this catches the auth screen before sonar (or windows) before it gets pushed away somewhere.

I also noticed there needs to be a couple vst's that load before it hits the problem vst, so i had to rename atmosphere.dll to zatmosphere.dll, it then worked!
You can then rename it back to normal..

    Ditto on that one Yogi1975....

No matter what I did, Sonar 7.0.2 (64 bit) would stop at Atmosphere 1.2 in Vista (64 bit).

My workaround is the same as yours except that I installed Samplitude 9 SE.

Authorization for Atmosphere was successful from there.

Thanks for leading me in the right direction......cheers!
