Odd "bounce to clips" behavior

I'm using Sonar Producer, 7.02, and I'm quite happy with the work I'm able to do with this software. This is definitely not a serious issue, but it's something I've just noticed, and I'm wondering if this is a known issue with anyone else.

I start out with at least two separate clips of audio that are separate but adjacent, and sitting near each other on the same track. (This is a situation I find myself in quite frequently after going through many different simple editing operations performed on a small part of a larger audio clip.)

At this point I may wish to perform a "bounce to clips" operation on these two different audio clips, because I may want to do something else to the now larger combined audio clip.

Everything is fine up to this point, but I happen to notice the waveforms and seemingly even the volume of the newly combined clips are slightly smaller/quieter.

I've done this, and looked to be sure there were no efx anywhere on that track or any following buss, and all the different gain levels that could affect this track in any way are set at 0.0 before the bounce.

Is this a known or expected issue? Is there a setting somewhere else that I need to adjust? I'd appreciate any ideas, help, or insight.

Cheers,
Lance "koolbass" Martin

I can say I have experience this. When I was first learing about comping layers and such I notice and was bothered my a dimished gain on bounce clips. At some point in my life this ceased to happen. I never did get a grip on what it was. It may have been an update? It may have been a setting with my trim or volume level. It may have been an automation envelope as I think they get applied in a bounce to clip function. That is my most likely guess...

It depends on the pan law setting and has been discussed to hell and back in the past.

Yes, that's it!! Many thanx Mr. Dreamkeeper. I troll this forum quite a bit, but I somehow missed that discussion. And I wasn't quite sure how to phrase a search about a "bounce to clips" problem so as to NOT get 2,000 hits.

I had recently read an article from Craig Anderton, where he discussed using one of the "-3dB ..." settings for it's sound that he found more realistic, so I had made a habit to use that setting instead of the "0dB ..." pan law setting. (I'm a big fan of Mr. Anderton and value his opinion.)

I may continue to use the "-3dB ..." pan law setting, except for when I need to use the "bounce to clips" routine.

This is a great forum, and one of the reasons I'm so glad I prefer using Sonar!!

    Thanx again Dreamkeeper!!

    Cheers,
