Digitech Vocalist Live and Tracking
-

I searched and found a forum article pertaining to using the Digitech Vocalist Live as an external buss, but it was about 2 years old. Has anyone had any recent luck in utiilizing a Digitech Vocalist while tracking? I'd like to find a way to solo a vocal track, pump it through the Digitech Vocalist Live, and send the resulting harmonies into a separate track that I can use as needed. Now, I'd rather do live harmonizing by the singer, but a small portion of my singing clients are pretty bad at harmonizing (or for that matter, trying to sing a harmony track entirely separate from listening to their own voice). What I'd also like to do, is at least get the Vocalist Live to record just the harmony track, so they have something to listen to and practice so that they can actually sing the harmonies themselves. Thanks.

Use your sends in the firestudio project, thats what i do to use my DigitechVR when tracking. If its already tracked inside sonar, use the external insert. Cj

I have a Digitech Vocalist Workstation and I've used it for both live background vocals and for overdubs. I use it in "vocoder" mode which means I send it MIDI data with the harmony notes and then it uses those notes for the harmony vocal.

Dave, thats an awsome way of doing it. I got to look into that and see if mine can do it That seemed only natural to me. I download a lot of canned MIDI files and most of them have the lead and vocal background tracks. I just take those and route them through the Vocalist and then when I sing, I get a doubled lead (if I want it) and the background vox. I used to have a excerpt from my arrangement of The Beatles' "Because" on my webpage which demonstrated how I used the Vocalist. I'll see if I can get it back on there.

Hey CJay and Daveny5, CJay especially, since you also have the Presonus FS Project, maybe I can share with you what I tried, but haven't had too much success yet: 1) From the back of the FS Project, connect a cable from the sends 1 and 2 to either the mic in or line in on the Digitech Vocalist 2) From either the L and R Line Outs from the Digitech Vocalist, connect a cable to any input on the front of the FS Project 3) In Sonar, set up a new Stereo Bus. Point your main vocal track to the bus using a send. Set the outputs of the buss to whatever inputs you used on the FS Project. 4) Create a new track, set the inputs to the vocalist's outs. When I tried doing it this way, I was getting bleed for some reason from a few of the other audio tracks (such as a drum and guitar sound), and I'm not sure why. But it semi-worked! How are you connecting it?

I don't quite understand your setup but typically bleed can often come from an effects send which you didn't mention.
