Tascam FW-1884 -- Shortcut assignments and clock rate

Two things that are bugging me on the 1884:

1. I can't get the Shortcut changes I make in the control panel (under Tools) to be effective. I.e., I change the settings in Cakewalk by assigning a new command, but it doesn't change the "canned" functionality of the key.

2. I have persistent, and spontaneous changes of clock speed to 96K. Anyway I can get it to stop this?

Thanks a lot for any help.

I may be able to help with #2.

    We need more information.

What version of the driver are you using? 1.50 or 1.60?

What SONAR Control Surface driver are you using? 1.21 or the 1.22 beta?

What is your computer? PC or MAC? If PC, XP or Vista?

What brand firewire card are you using?

All these pieces of info are critical to know if we are to help you.

In the small post studio next to where I teach is a 1082 set-up. It does the sample rate thing. I have to do shift and then select the SR on the device. What's weird is that it just started to do that over the past two weeks.

    Not sure about #1

    #1 im not to sure

#2 has something to do with the 1.60 driver...
mine does the same thing.. it'll just switch itself to 96.. it doesnt do it if i have the clock set to word clock coming from my converters though.

the 1.5 driver works fine. all you can really do it hold the clock src and change it to the rate that you want.
for this reason i got rid of the 1.6 driver

    RioJazz:

I'm using 1.6, 1.22, PC with XP SP2, FW card with TI chipset.

I haven't tried naming the changes as a preset. I'll try that and see if it works.

    Thanks a lot.

Tried that and it still defaults.

Do you see your custom preset list? - Maybe it is something else that is wrong but when I set mine up that's how I did it - working fine as fas as I can tell

Yes, the list comes up and I reselected the name, but again the function doesn't change. Is it a product of v. 1.22? That's what I'm using.

svenseel, your setup looks good except for possibly the 1.60 driver. As mentioned by others, the 1.50 driver seems better for Windows XP SP2, and works fine under SP3 which I just installed.

After upgrading to 1.60 I had all kinds of sample rate switching going on until I uninstalled everything and reinstalled with 1.50. The uninstall process takes nearly an hour if you follow the procedures documented here in another post. It involves deleting some Registry entries.

I can't say for certain that this was the cure for me, since I change many other things in my system often, but I know it worked for me and I'm starting to see news that others did the same thing.
