V-studio or...this?????

Ya know I'm not a big fan of Pr0 T00l5 and every now and then Diggee-dezine reminds me why... Sonar/Roland offer a control surface, that frankly means you don't really need a mouse, does the A/D D/A thingy and much much more (apparently even able to destroy small planets or somthing)... So digi comes out with another desk-flop surface thingy that is roughly only $5.00 less (current reatil suggest this unit will cost $3995.00) and here's what it does: Its a computer keyboard you get to choose the keys for and then you can set your coffee mug on it because that is apparently all the new control surface does, it doesn't even provide a mouse... http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?langid=100&itemid=6263 Anyone dumb enough to shell over for this deserves what they get... At any rate I found this at a thread at GS it might be a joke but some of the guys are saying it really is the price...its apparently not available yet...I'm sure the economy will sky-rocket once this thing is released...

Everything before the space between the ears is simply electrons pushing and shoving their way to get to the space between the ears...to an electron the sound in your head is the holy temple...so work like your efforts are holy...because somewhere they are.

1) for that money I expect a cup holder on the side 2) no bagel heater / toaster .. or coffee tea maker included (if only someone had the foresight to build such a controller with that functionality built in ) it looks horrid to be honest, what's with the colours? aggh! it looks like they are face plates for things that are missing also

I thought I must have been missing something, but it doesn't look like it. m It's all about form-factor in this case. It's a sad state of affairs that someone would think of paying $4000 for a mounted keyboard in an ugly box for the sake of ergonomics. Having now seen the newest videos, this Cakewalk thing looks really cool. I'm not in the market for it myself because it's really out of my league and a bit physically large, but if anyone has difficulty justifying the cost - all they have to do is take a look at this ProTools thingy.

It's is obviously just a qwerty module from a complete desk. Therefore professional studios will pay. Foolish but true.

ORIGINAL: d45 Therefore professional studios will pay. Would that be the same professional studios using Waves cracks? Mmm... yes, it all makes sense. BTW, what's that hole for at the top of the module? Name this song/band/singer: "I shot my mouth off, and you showed me what that hole was for"

i guess that the price mentioned includes some d-control remote interface bundle ALREADY fitted in this starange looking piece of ergonomy... maybe a digidesign essential hd bundle (than it would be even a price drop) if they wanna sell this metal case at 4grand and the whole in the middle is just for monitor cables - then "good night" they mighth truly have some psychic problems... btw: stop dissing digidisign please - whats the use of doing so...here????

Name this song/band/singer: "I shot my mouth off, and you showed me what that hole was for" The hole looks as though it could be for mounting an lcd panel as the surrounding panel looks removable for cables etc. It looks like the centre console for a larger modular desk to me.

I'm not a protools guy by any stretch of the imagination but comparing this to the V studio is rather silly Looking at the product page this is a completely unrelated product designed for a system costing 10 times as much as a V-studio (and probably worth it for people that use that system).. maybe i misssed the joke or the punch line? and Tom - I agree with you about the constant protools dissing .. Kind of Bush League IMO

Kind of Bush League IMO I agree! And I too ain't a ProTools user. I read more on the D-Command it's to compliment the ICON console (attaches to the ICON) fits snug either on the right side or left side and yes it does have a mouse connection (via USB), the color keys are to aid for easier navigation and quick access to things such as transport and editing. I suppose I can see the advantages for anyone who runs a commercial studio and can spare the dough! IMHO I think the D-Command is over-priced for what it does. Oh man! Sure glad I decided to use SONAR instead LOL!! My wife couldn't be happier too

Ummm...I have shelled out enough money to digidesign, that I think I have bought the right to diss them... I still own a 888/24, two 001 pci cards, and about a grand in Bomb Factory plug-ins that I bought from Erik before Digi bought him out and then started giving them away for free. My pissy attitude is righteously determined by Digi and their customer service/upgrade/not my problem approach that led me to never use their product again, and this kind of product is the exact reason I feel that way. For the industry position that these folks have, to put out this kind of product at this price point is not only laughable it needs to be pointed out, they do not deserve the market share they have. Fortunately I won't be fooled again.

Looks a little silly by its self. I'm sure the levels and contours all match up nicely with the Digi gear but there went ergonomics in keyboard design. Give me a pull out shelf anytime.

Is it just me, or does that thing literally look like it's jumped straight out of the 1980's with its mismatching colors and boring, dirty typewriter look everywhere. And yes Fog, I agree with you, for the price even I expect a cupholder. And possible a free sticker
