Guitar Hero drum kit as Midi controller ?

Does anyone know if this is possible ? I read the GH has a 'MIDI in' option but doubt this would allow this 'toy' to be used as a controller.

I have been considering buying a midi drum kit for ages to use with EZDrummer, and this may a reasonable solution for my tight budget.

please don't crucify me... i don't actually own Guitar Hero...yet.

cheers,

Zab.

A controller would need midi out to trigger external sounds. (such as EZ Drummer)

There was an article in Sound On Sound about how you could use a Wii remote as a controller (using bluetooth connectivity) http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/oct08/articles/wiimote.htm. So it probably is possible to use the World Tour kit, but you would need some one to write the software or trawl the net to see if someone already has. I doubt whether the kit is set up to sense velocity information though !

I've only tried and developed it on my own computer but try it out: http://drop.io/360mididrummer

The software listens to the USB-data transferred and translates them into MIDI events. Since I’ve not developed an alternative MIDI device driver you need a virtual device such as LoopBe1 to be able to use it with e.g, as mentioned, EzDrummer.

I hope you will able to get it to work as well. As always, use at own risk!

Forgot, you need a wireless receiver of course and it sends velocity for pads, cymbals and pedal.

David Crowder has one that I presume is MIDI triggering samples so I think it is possible.

This one is just the intro

This is him playing it with the whole song. It definitely works.

COOL! So if I just buy the PS3 Guitar Hero band kit, the drums are going to act as a controller for me? I use EZdrummer?
What's the wireless receiver, that comes with it? What more do I need other than the band kit?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Thanks for this.
Do I use the wireless receiver that I have plugged into my Xbox 360 for this or would I use something else entirely?
