I find that the following is a very effective way to use EZD to create drum tracks fast:
1) Set up EZD on an audio track. This is a rough scratch setup, but it'll work fine for programming the drum tracks.
2) set up a MIDI track for your main groove and point this MIDI track to the EZD plugin.
3) set up another MIDI track for your drum fills and point this track to the EZD plugin also.
4) Now you can audition MIDI groove files using the built-in MIDI file browser in EZD. When you find a clip that will serve for your main groove, drag it into the first MIDI track and stretch it out as a Groove clip (as per the instructions in the previous post).
5) Record the rest of your parts over this main groove.
6) go back to EZD and audition fill parts. Drag these to the appropriate places in your second MIDI track, and erase the corresponding parts from the main MIDI track.
7) Edit as necessary to complete the midi drum tracks.
8) delete EZD from the audio track where you had it set up. Now insert EZD as a synth in your synth rack, and include all the audio outputs, so you get a separate output for the kick, snare, hats, etc. Go into EZD's mixer and allocate the various drums to particular outputs. point your MIDI tracks to this new instance of EZD.
9) Bounce the drum tracks to audio and start mixing.
