The Tascam site now has the new 1.70 driver for the FW-1884.

    Hi there,

I don't suppose you know when they might release an updated driver for the FW-1082 interface??

I d/led and tweaked the FW-1884 driver, but still quite doesn't work for the fw-1082 interface...:)

No, sorry, I don't. I've learned over time that there is some crossover between these two devices, but it doesn't seem to be consistent, so I don't comment on the FW-1082.

    Good luck with it.

I had to part with my 1082 because it would not work in a 64 bit environment and the e-mail communication I received from Tascam (which took about a month to get) stated that they don't plan on doing anything about it. So I sold it. Although I enjoyed by Tascam, the support from the company was god awful.

I almost sold my FW-1082 because it didnt work with more than 2GB RAM (and I got 12GB)
but fortunatly the 1.70 version was released

    FW-1082 1.70 driver
    FW-1804 1.70 driver
    FW-1884 1.70 driver

These are Vista and XP drivers (the problems on Vista64 with 12GB RAM are gone with the wind!)
Didnt try Windows7 yet (waiting for official RC on MS-Site)
    Ciao

ps About Windows 7, the official Tascam position is that they won't release a driver until Windows 7 is actually released by Microsoft. However, there are some users of the new 1.70 driver who have reported success in Windows 7 beta.

    To my fellow FW-1884 users,

I just rebuilt my DAW, after a horrible Vista 32/MS Update corruption that rendered my machine useless.  Instead of a Vista 32 rebuild, I decided to give Vista 64 a try – Win7 64 isn’t an option for me at this time.  I now have Sonar 8.5 64-bit running with a Presonus Firestudio as the audio interface, and the FW-1884 as a control surface/midi interface only (on seperate TI based firewire cards) via the 1.70 driver.  I thought for some silly reason that I might be able to get away with using the fabled 1.22 Sonar control surface driver (32-bit), but I couldn't get it to work by installing into either the Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Shared Surfaces or the 64-bit Program Files\... path.  I couldn't get Sonar to "see" the control surface,  so I decided to install the 64-bit Sonar driver from the Tascam site.  It partially works, but this version appears to be based on the 1.21 code (no big surprise) and it exhibits all the bad behavior we discovered when Sonar 6 released.  Just to recap, here are the things that I’m aware of that don’t work correctly with the 64-bit Sonar CS driver:

    1)    You can’t arm by selecting a track and hitting “REC”

    2)    Controlling aux sends is partially Initially, volume and pan will work, until you hit the aux1 button on the FW-1884 again - then it will control the send's pan. To get back to the volume control state, you have to hit the "Flip" button twice.

    3)    Write Automation controls enable, but won't disable.

    4)    Selecting a track on the screen doesn't select it on the FW-1884.

There may be other features not working correctly – I haven’t tested everything, nor have I found a comprehensive list here in the forum.  I suspect that if I install Sonar 32-bit and the 1.22 CS driver in the x(86) path, the FW-1884 will work correctly in 32-bit mode - I’m not ready to go there just yet.

*** Does anyone have the FW-1884 working correctly via Sonar 8.5PE 64 in Vista or Windows 7 64-bit, using the 1.22 CS driver?  If not, this is likely the end of the road.

Tascam support says they are doing compatibility testing under Windows 7,  but I couldn’t get them to comment on the 1.22 driver.  I sent them a new message today asking specifically for a 64-bit version (even if it’s just Windows 7) – let’s see if they reply...

Re: RE: Tascam FW-1884 new 1.70 driver 2009/10/27 11:11:55 (permalink)
    Here we go again.

The reports I have heard would indicate that the FW-1884 causes a BSOD upon shutdown of the Tascam when using a 64-bit OS and driver 1.70.

The only SONAR Control Surface driver officially available from Tascam is 1.21, but, as of SONAR 6, you need 1.22.  This is only available in beta form and has never been posted on the Tascam websites of any country, even though it has existed for over two years.  You have to get it from another user.  And, apparently, 1.22 beta does not support 64-bit.  So, in SONAR, you're stuck without many of the functions you paid for on the Tascam.  I have been inquiring about the drivers, and a Tascam rep stated that there would be nothing posted until the official release of Windows 7.  Well, that date has come and gone, and still no changes on the Tascam websites of any county (yes, you have to check Tascam in other countries, because they do not seem to always be in sync).

The Tascam forum (let me correct that; the forum set up by users for Tascam products; Tascam does not run a forum) has a thread where a lot of this is discussed:  http://tascamforums.com/i...cf&showtopic=20021

Incidentally, users of Macs with the new Snow Leopard OS are getting computer crashes when they shut down the Tascam, too.

It's really begining to look like I'll be going to either RME/Mackie or V-Studio 700 when I go 64-bit/i7.

Too bad, all in all I like the FW-1884, with 1.22 beta SONAR driver and 1.60 Tascam driver.

Tascam/Teac tech support replied to my latest email by saying "We can't promise anything but we will definitely research the possibility."

If we have any shot at this, we all need to send them email - telling them how important this is to us.  I'm going to take a shot at sending an email to Frontier Design as well - it can't hurt.

If the past is a guide, Frontier Design may already have the drivers we need.  Unfortunately, they have to be released through Tascam.

[size=3 font="times new roman"]Using the Tascam FW1082 with Adobe Audition
[size=3 font="times new roman"]Open Audition CS3 and go to edit then open Preferences click on External Controllers
[size=3 font="times new roman"]under External Control Devices select Mackie Control under Volume Increments(db) select 0.5 click on Configure
[size=3 font="times new roman"]In the Midi Input Device select FW1082 Control and In the Midi Output Device select FW1082 Control and click OK
    [size=3 font="times new roman"]
The FW1082 start stop record etc. should now work with Audition CS3 . this may work with CS4 and earlier versions as well, so if someone finds it does post your findings.

    Some news.

As you know, in November 2009, Tascam announced they would not be supplying Windows 7 drivers for the FW series, and despite the listing as current on the USA website, said that the equipment was now 'legacy'.

On March 29, Tascam announced the release of OS 10.6 drivers for the FW series.  The notice states that this is the final update for that platform.

Frontier Design then told me they had developed Windows 7 drivers for the FW-1884 and said to contact Tascam for the release date.

Yesterday, the Tascam UK Facebook page posted a notice that the 1.80 drivers for the FW series would be released next week.

Of course, that was April Fool's Day, but it looks legit.  There is hope.
