Remove hidden Pgm/control code in midi track?

Importing a BiaB song into Sonar 8.2.1PE I have one track which insists on setting TTS-1 channel 7 to the Kyoto patch. I have gone into the Events List view and deleted every control event in EVERY track and STILL the track gets reassigned to Koto patch.

Any idea where this patch change might be found and deleted?
thanks
Fred

A "control" change is not the same as a "Patch" change ...

but, that being said - try going into your Project Options and uncheck "Search patch" and/or "reset controllers" - it may be one of those.
Also make sure the track itselfl is not set to a MIDI channel.

Thanks ba_midi - That did it . I still wonder though where the devil is that information is in the midi stream and is there another way to change/delete it
    Again, Thanks,
    Fred

Just tried this - Copying the clip and pasting it into a new track also removes the patch information

Select All > Select by Filter > check Patch and Bank > OK. Then press Delete on the keyboard.

Ctrl A>edit>select>by filter>check Patch and Bank>OK>press Delete on keyboard

Sounds logical but can't get this one to work

also tried Go SEARCH and "No event matching...is found" is returned

Where the hell is this info buried?

IIRC in BiaB 2007 there is a checkbox during midi export that does not export instrument changes.

Why exactly this doesn't work? Give us more details please.

    Hi Vivchik

    I performed the following sequence

    Ctrl A to select everything
    edit menu
    select
    by filter
    deslected everyhing then...
checked Patch (did not exclude anything)
    OK
    press Delete on keyboard

The patch information is still present apparently because when I press play the instrument on channel 7 (in Cakewalk TTS-1) changes from Piano to Tako drum. The patch information is still somewhere in the midi file.

I have been more successful by copying the midi file from BIAB to the clipboard (and using the options "No patch changes" ) and pasting that into sonar. I can then select what track goes to what patch in TTS without any problems.

    Hello,

I had the same problem. If I recall correctly, this info is not in the midi file itself, but in the track or clip properties. Don't have Sonar in front of me now, so I can not pinpoint it but as I said, Track or clip properties (right click etc...)

Yep, that's what I do. IIRC I had your same problem, stumbled over that simple solution, and left it at that.

    Hi Fred-

Do you have a source .mid file you can upload somewhere for us to look at?

    Hi hugojacquet,
    You get the gold ring
The information is in the TRACK properties
Just set both Bank and Patch properties to "None" and you can freely assign that track to any patch.
You can also free or force a channel assignment.

    A BIG THANK YOU

When I have had this problem in the past, I've gotten it to work by deleting the first measure of each of the tracks. I have two measures of lead-in, anyway. So, it's not a problem.

Yep, that can also work, I recall. I knew BiaB plays some funky tricks with midi, - it can also make tempo maps if you convert audio to midi, my guess is it stores it in a similar way. Nice one.

Copypastaíng everything with patch changes off works fine for me though, no need to edit anything or remove bars.

    @OP
BTW you did know you can set TTS-1 as your main synth in BiaB? Have basically the same sound in BiaB as in Sonar, I find that a VERY handy starting point in Sonar, not first discovering the diff between VSC and TTS-1 sounds....

This was my first time importing from BIAB

    Lessons learned - Recap

Initial Patch/Banks imported from BIAB are located in Sonar's TRACK properties.
They can also be edited in TRACK Properties
They appaently cannot be selected/edited in the "Edit/Select/By Filter..." menu
In BIAB "Make MIDI/Options" menu you can unselect insert patch changes

Patches/banks Inserted in Sonar using the "insert" menu can be located in the Event List list
They can be selected/edited in the event
They can also be located/edited via the "Edit/Select/By Filter..." menu

And, you can set TTS-1 as your main synth in BiaB (or I think any VST)

    Any corrections/comments?

    Thanks to all!

    or I think any VST

The DXI version, actually - and TTS-1 works fine, even snappier than the VSC, while giving better sound IMO.

Other DXI's might also work, like NI's Bandstand, but I couldn't get DimPro to work. for instance, so it's a bit hit and miss. On a slower machine, TTS-1 is the best solution, and if you set everything to TTS-1 in Sonar (select all midi tracks and set the output to TTS-1, is fastest) you start exactly where you left off in BiaB.
