Cannot get My Edirol PCR 300 to work as a control surface
I cannot get my Edirol PCR 300 to work as a control surface with SONAR, although it works fine in terms of generating sound and playing the soft synths. From all the forum posts I've read I have it set up correctly. My software and drivers are up to date, and I uninstalled reinstalled the driver and reset the PCR-300 to factory settings, it still doesn't work. My Sonar 8 settings are Midi Devices Inputs EDIROL PCR 1, EDIROL PCR 2 and EDIROL MIDI IN are selected Outputs EDIROL PCR and EDIROL MIDI OUT are selected I also have a Midiman USB interface connected with its ins and outs selected. Controllor Surfaces The controller is set to Edirol PCR - 300 the In Port is set to EDIROL PCR 2, the Out port is EDIROL PCR The Edirol PCR Settings PCR Editor: MIDi Devices the Input Port is EDIROL PCR 2 and the Output Port is EDIROL PCR Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hey, First off, I am in no way an expert in this area. Just want to help anyway I can and possibly extract any info other members may be able to use to help you further. I also own a Edirol PCR 300 and I have the same same settings you have decribed above and all seems to work. So that doesnt look like the issue. So you can strike that off the list :) What exactly are your problems. Does it control the start/stop timeline etc when you Dynamic Mapp?

Bring up the control surface. Make sure that under "In Port," in reads: "Edirol PCR 2." If it does not, there is a little drop down arrow that you would need to click on, and select Edirol PCR 2. Under "Out Port" it should read "Edirol PCR," if it does not use the drop down arrow to select it. You should now be able to use the transport, sliders, and knobs.

Yes, remember the Edirol has 2 MIDI inputs to Sonar (or other DAWs). Input 1 is the keyboard where you can play synths, etc. Input 2 is the control surface - the knobs, sliders, and buttons. But Sonar is really configured to work well with the Edirol PCR x00 series, so check the documentation. It should be pretty easy. That's why many of us bought Edirol PCR x000 controllers. To integrate fully with Sonar. I've got the 61.

As far as controlling Sonar it doesn't matter which of Sonar's MIDI outputs you assign in the controllers dialogue. It looks like you have Sonar's ACT input set to the PCR2 output so my guess is that you ought to take a look at the PRM MUTE/ENTER switch just above the pitch controller. Make sure it's not illuminated. Phil

For reasons that I have given up trying to comprehend, ACT always fails initially on my rig. To get it it too work, I have to use the dropdown menu at the head of the ACT properties page to re-open the preset that I am already using. Invariably, its name in the dropdown box is initially showing with an asterisk, implying that there are unedited changes, even though I have made none. Once re-opened, the asterisk disappears and ACT works " as expected". HTH.

Try resetting your PCR to factory settings. Also, set your out port to "none". Make sure you hit the "Dynamic Mapping" button on the PCR.

Thanks Brandon and everyone, I had already tried all the suggestions above. the only thing I haven't tried is setting the Output port to 0. How do you set this?

John, I "think" Brandon means .. go into your midi setup.. in sonar under options and untick the midi out for the pcr.. and just leave the IN enabled and untick the output box one HTH

I read it more as "In the controller/surfaces" dialog, where you assign the in and out ports to each controlling device, in the case of the Edirol, leave the Out there set to none. FWIW, I have the PCR800 and have it set up as you have yours and it works fine. It can be a little wierd since the names are pretty useless. I have definitely had times when I needed to re-set this up on a system rebuild and had to take more than one stab at getting both the keyboard midi to record as well as the ACT parts to work. If it's hooked up right, just pressing the "Dyn Mapping" button on the PCR should bring up the ACT control panel. This should be your first indicator that it's working.

Blades thanks for your input - However I have no problem pressing Dynamic Mapping and getting the ACT Control Panel to come up, that has worked form day one. I will try resetting the Out when I am back in the studio later today.

I trued setting the out to none but this made no difference. However I noticed something. When I hit Dynamic Mapping the ACT Control Page pops up, although I cannot control using the PCR-300, if I use the mouse to change, for example panning, I can see the values change in the relevent setting in the ACT page. Any ideas, it seems to be set up correctly but the sliders etc are not linked to the ACT.

hhmm and the drop down box is showing the PCR as the keyboard in use on the top left.. I mean if you turn the sliders etc . in that dialog the values change? look in the console view and see if they move in that.. perhaps the dials on the keyboard are allocated to the synths and the sliders to the audio levels in console view.. just a thought, I don't use a PCR so am vague.

It sounds like the ACT stuff is latching to the keybaord. Are you sure it's enabled (check box in lower left of ACT control panel)? Also, check to make sure that it's not locked - checkbox near same location. If you have it locked to some plugin or the mixer or whatever, it won't follow application focus and might appear not to be working.

I've got the same ACT problem as above. PCR-800 working great as synth MIDI controller but no activity seen by SONAR ACT. Turn a knob, and no change in properties page. PCR shows it is sending data. Running WIN 10 and Platinum. The driver hack got me this far (thanks, Blades, et al). Hoping to get up and running in ACT.
