Track Envelope Problem
Of course there have been tons of complaints about SONAR envelopes - a lot to do with Clip envelopes in particular, which I don't use. In fact - I've largely "Defended" the envelopes as I work with them all he time and generally don't have much problem and get what I want. One thing that drives me nuts thought is this, and I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, or if there is a setting or something that would fix it. If I have a TRACK envelope, and then I delete the clip from underneath it, all the envelope nodes/adjustments disappear in that section and I get the straight dotted line across? What the heck? Is there any way to keep the envelope when I delete a Clip from under it? These usually happen when I want to remove a clip and replace it with another bounce from a "raw" track.

That happens when the track envelope is selected along with the target clip. Delete the clip and that section of the envelope is deleted. Change that behavior with the per project setting of the Select Tool. Click the drop-down arrow on the tool's icon and change the setting there.

Can you elaborate. When it happens to me... I don't have any track envelopes in the project. Where is this option to click? I don't think my toolbar has the select tool visible... where is that icon? thanks, mike

For a second I felt badly that I had thought something was broken when it wasn't, but indeed it is broken. This is just a very effective work around. The ability to select the track envelope along with the clip envelope was offered as a feature and an improvement... it's a shame it took many of us years to learn that using this feature can kill your clip envelopes. I guess I will not use that feature any more and tweak my sketch template. Thanks again, mike

If you just want to delete the track's contents and leave the envelope(s) intact, click Edit > Delete > and select "Events in tracks", and DE-selecte "Automation" Works perfectly 100% of the time.

I never even realized those options where there. I thought it was bug. This feels like I just got an patch or something. Thanks for sharing.

The select tool option works as it should on track envelopes, which I think some of us needed the option turned off, but didn't know about it. The bug seems to be that that same option overreacts and controls clip automation behavior. Maybe they're really all track envelopes under the hood, like if they're all stored in the same little envelope factory or something and then get shipped out to the clips and tracks for use on both.

Maybe they're really all track envelopes under the hood That would be par for the course. Kind of like Instrument tracks are the same as the old synth tracks but one is kind of hidden under the other.
