Quick question about Compression?

i am trying to use the compression  audio fx  in sonar 6  LE  but when i press audition it only plays the first part of the instrumental then just keeps repeating  it doesn't no let me audition the whole track with the vocals so i cant really adjust the compression setings to what i want so i was wondering if iam doing this correctly or not?

Audition will indeed only loop for a short while. As long as automation is turned off, you should be able to adjust the compression realtime as the track plays. The reason you want automation turned off is because it may record what you are doing otherwise and cause you head aches later on (which I discovered the hard way myself).

I rarely use the audition function.

I prefer to pop in the FX and hit play. If I don't like the FX...I can make adjustments in real time and hear the changes as I make them OR delete it while the track is playing.

I do not recommend inserting an audio FX while in the playback mode. I recommend stopping playback to insert the FX.

This sounds like you are applying compression via the Process>Apply Audio Fx menu.

This is Destructive editing and is not the best way to do it since the effect you apply will be permanent.

Follow GuitarHackers method. This is the Non-Destructive way.

In the Cakewalk effects, you should see (amongst others): FX Compressor/Gate and FX Dynamic Processor. The dynamic processor has what you want. If you don't see it, it would suggest a bug during the installation of the programme..
