BCR2000 help!

Hi there, I just bought the Behringer BCR2000, hooked it up to my Windows 7 x64 machine via USB, detected, driver installed, now it shows up in Sonar 6 (yeah, I know, haven't upgraded in a while) as a midi device (BCR2000 in/out).

Now... I go to Options > Controllers/Surfaces, add a ACT Midi Controller, choose the BCR2000 as the in/out port.

Create a blank project, insert a Pentegon soft synth.

Ok, now here is where I am stuck...

If I go into the ACT Midi Controller dialog I can choose the BCR2000 preset from the Presets dropdown, now all the cells in the Controllers tab set to some generic set (it looks like). If I check the ACT Enable button, and then give focus to the Pentagon, I see it show up in the ACT dialog.

The BCR is on, and untouched out of the box, on Preset 1, haven't done anything except plug it in.

If I click on one of the cells it says "Midi Learn...", but then nothing, if I turn a knob on the BCR2000 (which is what I am guessing you need to do to assign that nob to that cell), nothing happens, no change.

What am I missing here? I'm not usually this dense, but am I doing something wrong? Is there something I need to do to the BCR2000 in order for it to work with Sonar? I have read through the help in Sonar and through the manual of the BCR2000 and really haven't figured out how to actually get this setup.

Any help for a total noob is really appreciated.

Thanks

One more thing to add... The BCR seems to work great with Reason 4 ... I litterally just added it as control surface, it had a preset, and now it just works, I can assign knobs to any control, etc.

there are a few threads about it, if you google "sonar bcr 2000"

also , I would put it on a 32 bit pc if you haven't updated the firmwire , it'll tell you the revision number when you switch on (that side is only 32 bit)

as for reason, yep it's easy to integrate some hardware, but not everything. It's easier for them simply because there is nothing 3rd party and a closed shop as far as plugins are concerned.

maybe you'd get more joy in Mackie mode also.

I tried to update the firmware using Behringer's updater, it said it worked, and then said the device wasn't connected anymore (even through it was). When I turn on the BCR it says 110, I think this is the latest?

I tried running Aj's thing, doesn't run, perhaps because I am running x64? I tried running the install.cmd from an elevated cmd and it appears to register the dlls, but then when it runs the exe, nothing...

All I really want to do is to assign a knob to a parameter on a softsynth. Isn't there some simple way of doing this in Sonar? Perhaps in midi mode? (instead of using the USB) I have seen postings about running it is "Mackie Mode", but I haven't found an easy step by step on how to do this.

Yeah, I can see how in Reason, it would be easy for them to have built in support as they are in control of every aspect of the app. Pretty neato how it just works!

    Thanks for the reply

If you use ACT only some of the BCR's controls are available for assigning. There's no preset for it so you'll have to manually set it all up, which is an arcane PITA if you ask me.

ACT 2.0 is much desired on this front.  I used Ableton Live recently and nearly peed my pants at how simple and elegant their system is for MIDI control.

Try going over AJs stuff again, it's really the only way to fly with the BCR (I can't speak to w64 compatibility tho)
