Getting started

I'm utterly new to this recording stuff and need a little help.

Would anyone know of a good, easy-to-understand video on how to get started with Cakewalk, Sonar 6 LE?

This old guitar-picken guy needs something that a grade 3 would understand!  ;-)

Many thanks.

Michael

have a look on the disk for a PDF manual and also there is tutorial files included. If you go to the help bit , they might be listed under that.

think of sonar like a multi-track tape deck.. but with unlimited tracks..thing is you might see if you can get a book about sonar from the library..

what did you get sonar LE with BTW?

Scott's sonar Power books. But all these books are geared for Sonar Producer and studio, not sonar Le (limited Edition).
Sonar LE is a limited edition that is free with bundled software. It doesn't contain all the features of Sonar producer/studio or home studio

SONAR 6 LE comes bundled with the new UA-1G. I'm using both at home to record my vinyl albums to digital format. Sam, what's in your signal chain? I've plugged in the UA-1G to my USB port on the computer.  I'm running stereo out from my turntable to stereo in on the UA-1G, stereo out of the UA-1G to my speakers. There's a neat diagram on the back of the UA-1G. There might be one on your product?

As for SONAR LE, looks a bit confusing at first glance. Check out these videos for help on setting up your hardware and start recording:

Watch how he sets up his device within SONAR to record & playback (within the first minute): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcAtPmLtRns

Here's another to show you how to setup a project within SONAR and start recording MIDI & audio: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2UI1daUNvU

    Hope this helps!

Sam,  what exactly did you get it with ? as it ships with a number of things..

but if you want to record from an external source say a keyboard or as Kate uses her's you'd need audio cable of some sort..depending on the connectors on your interface and the unit your using.. maybe a Y-cable 3.5 mini jack / 2 x phono to 2x 1/4" jack etc.

if your using say a  midi keyboard etc. you'll need midi cables maybe IF it hasn't got USB support.. and in > out.. and out > in.
