Attention all Sonar 8/8.5 users with a Tascam FW-1884

If you have any designs on moving to a 64-bit OS (Vista or Windows 7) and you are a Tascam FW-1884 user - please help lobby Teac/Tascam to provide a new 64-bit Sonar Control Surface driver based on the 1.22 (beta) CS driver code.  I won't go into detail on the lineage of the 1.22 CS driver, it is discussed elsewhere in this forum – it's required for full functionality in Sonar 6 and above.

I recently made an incremental step toward 64-bit by going to Vista 64, while I'm waiting for drivers for Win7 64.  My experience is that Sonar 64 won't work with the 1.22 (32-bit) driver that most of us are using in the 32-bit world (XP and Vista 32).  I couldn't get Sonar 64 to recognize the FW-1884 by placing the 1.22 CS driver in either the Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Surfaces or Program Files x(86)\... paths.  I have not yet tried Sonar 32-bit with the 1.22 driver under Vista 64, but it did work fine for me on Vista 32.  I do however have partial functionality by using the 64-bit Sonar CS driver Tascam has on their site, but this driver is based on the 1.21 code - thus providing limited functionality in Sonar 8.5PE 64.

Even if you are unsure about taking your FW-1884 to 64-bit, your help would be greatly appreciated.  The email address for Tascam is CUSTSER@TEAC.COM.  Tell them you are specifically interested in a 64-bit Sonar Control Surface driver based on the functionality in the unreleased/beta 1.22 (32-bit) driver.  This driver was never posted to the Tascam site, but was given to many of us by Teac support.

For the record - I would love to have a VS700C, but I just don’t have $2,500 just laying around.  So unless Cakewalk/Roland does a cash for clunkers – I’m stuck with the FW-1884.

    Dan,
It seems your thread has fallen through the cracks, as has support for our Tascam FW-1884.
I found this post using google, not the forum search, but that is another topic.
Do we have enough users to pool our resources and have the 1.22 driver updated to 64 bit?
How about a show of hands?

I read elsewhere (in this forum?) that Tascam has confirmed that the FW-1884 is now a 'legacy' product and will NOT get W7 drivers.

I'm saving up my empty coke bottles for a V-Studio 700 or MCU/RME, unless my good friend Alex sends me one.

FW-1884 is "legacy?" Lovely. I recently bought a new DAW (Sweetwater) but stayed 32-bit and Vistal just to take the changes one at a time. Seems prescient now - but really just lucky. Yea - time to think about a V-Studio. Maybe next Christmas.

So the sun is setting on the FW-1884? Everyone is happy with that?
I'm planning to jump to 64 bit in the spring, I should just budget for the v-studio?
What are we going to do fellas?
