using pcie technology for plugins once and for all... free up that cpu
i was out of the gear biz for 15 years... last time i had anything to do with recording people were just starting to bring up this new thing called a-dat. so needles to say it's been quite the adventure catching up on all the daw gear. being that i only had experience with external gear(cause that's all there was) i never new a world where things like latency and brain freeze caused you to loose your mind... i guess it's amazing what you can get used to. the most exciting peice of gear that i've come accross is the uad pcie cards with there dedicated plug ins. mostly cause that's been the most anoying part, for me, about in the box recording. it's wonderful that rolland has made a box that included a great synth(cause there wasn't enough in the software) but rather than doing that (being that i haven't actually made use of it because of their software incompatibility issues) why, in stead of including hardware that most of us wern't really looking for in the first place that extends the price to "unobtainable" to a lot of home studio guys did they not just leave the unit as an awesome io unit, which it most definitely is? don't get me wrong... i'm sure the synth is great and the guys who actually can run it appreciate the gain in plug in power but wouldn't most of us rather of had a stand alone pcie board for plug ins rather then anouther synth. i can't speak for every one but for me it most definitely wasn't the synth that swayed my dissition toward the v700 studio... it was the awesome io's and most of all the console. so now i'm going to buy the uad's stand alone board and all of those plug ins(freeing up most of my processor for tracking and automation and editing. cause that's the way it should be. my ultimate question is this.... does cakewalk have any plans to offer their own pcie processors of their own? or are they going to continue trying to save the ark card technology which so far doesn't seem to be worth saving?
what a world it would be if our plug ins relied on a separate cpu to run them and we never again had to worry about cpu freeze up because of overloaded plug ins? and i for one would like to say...." why aren't you using the new Roland pcie plug in board?"
I've been using roland gear since the beginning... believe me when i say I've owned most of it at one time or another starting with their dimension D and space echo. the stuff is rock solid and always does what it says it will and more. I've always been proud to own Roland gear so... make me proud again and fix this plug in problem... rather then letting other companies do it for you.
