How do I burn an audio cd as an mp3?
Well here's a newbie question. I have Sonar Home Studio 7 as well as the mp3 encoder. I have exported my recordings in mp3 format and now I want to burn it as a cd that can be played on any stereo or player. Problem is the pyro Audio Creator LE converts it to wav format making the recording to large for the blank disc. How can I prevent this from happening?

I think you have re-export them as Broadcast .wav files. That's what I did and it worked.

Thanks. Well I did that, but when I pulled the file into the burner it's still too large. Is there something I need to do in the burner to convert the file to an mp3 so I can fit everything on the disc?

MP3 discs can't be played in ANY stereo. CDA files are created on audio discs (that play in any stereo), and are the same size as WAVs. If you want to burn the disc with MP3s, you have to ensure that it's saving as DATA, not AUDIO. I don't know if the Cakewalk MP3 encoder can do that. What are you trying to record? You should be able to get around 70min of audio on a CD using WAV or CDA. And you'll have MUCH better sound quality than with an MP3.

I recorded a two day lecture for a friend of mine and previous people who have done that for her have been able to put hours of lectures onto a single disc. I've never tried to play those previous discs on anything but my computer so I don't know if anyone played them on a cd player. I know that most people from this last class requested it to be in mp3 format because it's universal and can be played on any computer or easily downloaded onto their iPods. But I suppose some people still have equipment from the dinosaur days and want it in a differnt way. So I guess I'm trying to find a happy medium here. They want alot of info onto a single disc that can be versitile enough to play on almost anything. Hence my dilemma.

There's no getting around the file size. It is what it is. CDA (WAV) files are roughly 10mB/min. MP3 is about 1mB/min. If you must use audio CD's, you will need several. It just won't all fit onto one disc.

An MP3 CD is a data CD and not an audio CD. They can only be played on a computer CD or DVD drive or an audio CD or DVD drive that is capable of playing MP3 CDs (most newer drives have this capability, most older ones don't). That being said, MP3 disks are nice because you can put 700 minutes of music on them. I use them a lot because my car multi CD player can play MP3 disks and so I can have 70 hours of music available. To create them you need a CD burner program that can burn MP3 disks, like Nero or Cakewalk pyro Audio Creator, Roxio or others. I don't think the one in Sonar can burn MP3 disks.

Thanks guys ! The Sonar Home Studio 7 program I have came with pyro Audio Creator LE. Is it just a matter of getting my mp3 encoder to work to achieve this goal?

Well it came with a trial version and I just recently bought the full version. Problem is I need another program to unzip it. I have tried three so far and none will work. I tried "JustZipit", "ZipIt", and "Ken's World Zip". This is becoming slightly aggrevating to say the least. Know of a good program that's free?

Windows can burn a cd or dvd without the purchase of additional software. Take your mp3 files and use the windows built in disk burning utility to burn them on a cd or dvd. If you need assistance with this feature, click on your desktop and press F1 and it will bring up windows help and you can search for the word "burning"

Thank You texasfrank. I did try that and it did work. Atleast it played on the dvd player, but not my car stereo. It probably isn't mp3 compatible. So I will try to fiind a friend with a cd player and see if it works on there. I think you just saved this here woman from going crazy !

WindowsXP has a built-in function for zipping and unzipping files. Otherwise, the best free solution is 7-zip. Google it.

Here's some odd facts that you may not be aware of. I've looked through the specs on my television dvd player, and a couple mp3 cd players and found out that all cannot play mp3 files when they are recorded to a dvd disk. They will only play mp3 files recorded to a cd. That is probably true of car stereos as well. The only way I can play mp3 files recorded on a dvd is in my computer. In addition, I think I recall reading that there was a file number limitation of how many files you could put on the disk or in one folder. This file number limitation is also true if you copy to a usb thumb drive that has been formatted using FAT. Formatting a thumb drive to FAT32 eliminates this file number limitation. I found this out one day when I was trying to copy more than 500 files to a USB thumb drive and the copy kept failing. When I reformatted it to FAT32 I could put as many files on the drive as I wanted to.

Well I was able to put 8 hours of lecture onto one disk using the burner on windows audio player, but I still unfortunately have the mp3 encoder that I purchased that I can't seem to use. I downloaded the 7-zip program, but it seems so complicated. It didn't come with a step by step intruction for a newbie like me to understand. What do I do after I right click on it? Or will cakewalk reimburse me for a product i can't use?

Then click on Setup or whatever Cakewalk calls the install program. Read the Read Me file if there is one.
