what the #@$$ happened to my audio

if anyone out there has any idea of why, all of a sudden, when i try to call up soft synths the audio is dropping out it would be greatly appreciated.  it seems to be a new issue... always worked fine before.  now its on every soft synth on every project new or old.  tried reloading drivers and all that stuff.... spent an hour on hold with the teks only to find out they were closed.  good thing i finally gave up and tried calliing again.  wonder if any of them noticed the little litht flashing on the phone when they grabed their coats.  second time this has happened.

you said it yourself.. so what has changed all of a sudden? is the machine online did you do windows or software updates. Was your pc setup by a shop before etc? and maybe there is a setting you haven't sorted..

your too vague as zo said, but there are simple things to check like your asio driver for start.. make sure it's the right latency and the sound mode you are in..  you do need to be VERY specific esp things regarding your setup.

added a uad2 quad card...worked flawlessly but disabled it just to be sure...still crappy audio.   hadn't even loaded any plug ins was just starting a fresh session.  no fx no nothing. just tried to load a soft synth.  here's the weird thing. the true piano does not do this.  just every other synth ...   connected a new screen today i was always running two .. but went back to old set up... still crappy sound.   latency set as it always is, about half way.  asio mode enabled everything appears normal there.  havn't changed any settings in sonar.  tried uninstalling v700 drivers and reinstalling fresh...still crappy.  i have all the audio features disable in windows.  on board sound card has been disabled on the mother board.  only time i go on line with that machine is to download updated and plugs. all firewalls are disabled.  i only use it for sonar.  here's the thing i know it's probly something I'm doing wrong... but what?

    Hi Smoochy,

There's two things I can think of to look into ...

1.) Power Settings ... it sounds like your CPU might not be running at full strength. Make sure your Power Settings Plan is set to High and if you need to manually change the setting for your CPU's Minimum State to always be at 100%

2.) DPC Latency Checker ... it is a free tool which I would recommend you run. If there is spiking in the DPC latency or overall high values that is an indication of a bad driver of one of your components

Seth... have you ever blamed every one else around you for misplacing your car keys only to reach into your pocket and magically fine them right where you left them.... boy is your face red.... that's kind of how this one feels.   turns out that it was a faulty widi(wireless midi) receiver.  i must have knocked it when i was installing my uad card and bent the usb tab.  so my apologies to cakewalk for what i was thinking.  the interesting thing to note was how many different answers i got back from other cakers and the teck guys.  that's the thing that's so perplexing about using computers....  the problem is often something that you wouldn't even think has anything to do with your issue.  sometimes it seem like a "planets alignment"  issue and you find yourself resorting to turning on and off the light switch wile standing on one foot to see if that will make a difference.  anyway I'm glad i found out what it was and all seems to be right with the world again

    thanks
