Sticky Notes (no, not Post It notes)
I spent probably an hour and a half with tech support working out some glitches with my inputs and outputs with Sonar and the VS-700R and C. I've started a couple of projects using MIDI tracks. I have had this weird thing happen in some of the MIDI tracks:
Let's say I've got 8 MIDI tracks and different voices assigned to them via the Editor. All of the tracks Outputs are assigned to the FANTOM S (VS700). I am "performing (term used very loosely)" on the keyboard. I am testing each voice and find that in one of the tracks, one note (for example, D-3) will stick (or shall I say continuously sustaining). It'll continue to sustain until I change the voice. Then, if I hit the D-3 again, it will sustain continuously again. It is NOT the MIDI controller. I open the Piano Roll and hit the same note and it will sustain. I hit the same note on the keyboard in the Editor and it will sustain. It will only do this on the one track. If I delete the track and insert an new MIDI track, all is well.
Anyone else had a similar glitch?
Was still a very green Sonar 8 Producer Edition user when graduating to a very green Sonar X1 Expanded user. Now, upgraded to Sonar X3c from X2 (but never had the time to get proficient with it.) Hi RA not sure what is happening with you there and your midi notes. I dont have any issues with that. Maybe you need to check to see how many midi devices you have got installed. Are you using any external midi devices etc. If so I would not be using another midi interface to connect to any external devices, I would be using the VS700R midi for that purpose instead.
Now if you are not using any external midi device and this is all happening to you internally then I am not sure. I did have some issues with midi but I was trying to get the 64 bit plug ins on the masterbuss to work at the same time as tracking midi and the midi side of things did not like it. Are you using any plugs ins here and there while you are tracking midi?

Well, I've got a stand alone computer and the only MIDI device I've got is my MIDI controller, which is a Yamaha MOTIF XS-7. The only thing I am using is the 700-R.
I also recorded another performance and used that key. It stuck. On playback, when it got to that note, it stuck too.
Now, I've restarting Sonar and re-opening the project and that note in that track is no longer sticking. I'm baffled. It doesn't do this every time. So far it seems sporadic and it doesn't favor any particular note.

I just thought of something reading your post RA. Have you disconnected the Motif and tried another keyboard controller all together. I would. Often it is the controller's fault. Now Yamaha devices used to send some continuous controller messages even when you are not playing. That may be jamming up your midi data. I had a guy here who was having problems with a Yamaha controller as well. In the end I ended up using one of those pocket filter midi devices and I removed all the continuous messages and all was well with him. Could be something like that. I presume you have got your Motif set for Local OFF and can you also sequence the internal sounds in multi timbral mode from Sonar? That would be powerful! Just using Motif and Fantom alone would be huge! Have you read my stuff on how to produce Fantom tracks better. I am getting some great sounding Fantom parts with a little effort.

I might ave to look into another controller. However, the problem appears to be from the 700-R as I am getting this random sustaining being completely untouched by the Yamaha. In other words, when I use the software keyboards (both on Piano Roll and Fantom VS Editor) I get the sustain problem. It seems to be a random thing, too. I mean a random note and only on a random track (different note each time and appears to be on only one track (and a different track) each time). Also, it only happens sometimes. I think the majority of the times since I've got things going, it isn't happening.
Yes, the Local Control is OFF.
No, I haven't read your stuff on better Fantom tracks. I would love to as they would be very helpful.

Well, I take that back. It seems it is certainly happening the majority, if not all, of the times. Again, different notes on a different track.

I even disconnected the XS-7 (MIDI controller) and used the virtual keyboard in the Editor and it still happened.

I've never seen the stuck note problem occur in the Fantom. While you insist it isn't the Midi controller I have to ask, how do you know? It sustains the same way in the Piano Roll and in the Editor? Whats left? Sonar? Is it sustaining in Sonar? Yes, it has to be sustaining in Sonar. Try hitting the Reset Midi button on the transport instead of deleting the track. The stuck note problem is a hard one, I haven't found an answer to it.
