Sonar 8.5.2 now Always on TOP?

hmmmm. i cant find this anywhere in release notes or Global options.
suddenly on 8.5.2 Sonar is always on top of everything (windows explorer, IE, anything else i open)
and i now how to minimize Sonar to see any other windows. Where am i missing a checkbox?

Also, step input pop up is no longer visible when i hit it, but when i close/re-open Sonar, it pops up.

weird?!

From the several threads of the last couple days on this issue:

    Options > Global > VST Plug-ins tab

Uncheck Scan for VST Plug-ins On Startup.

Apparently, yes. Not a problem here. But that's what others have identified as the culprit. Did you try it?

Tried it and it works (after closing Sonar then reopening).

Strangely this just started happening to me and it was fixed by simply rescanning the VSTs.

This has been addressed in the upcoming 8.5.3 update.
BTW a better and less intrusive way to workaround it if you have this issue, is to disable the quick start dialog. If the dialog is not opened when that app launches the problem does not occur.

When SONAR launches we were setting the application as topmost temporarily to address a Windows XP issue where the application would lose focus after it launched the VST scan process. This state is immediately restored by SONAR, but for some reason on some machines the restoration of the topmost state does not take place. This code has been around for at least 4-5 years so its pretty mysterious why this this problem only showed up recently in 8.5. Its possibly a bug in windows itself that manifests in combination with other factors. In any case the code that was causing the issue has been now removed so you shouldnt see this anymore in 8.5.3.

    Noel,

When should we expect the 8.5.3 update? What other issues will it address?

    Regards,
    Papa

The update is undergoing final testing but as the newsletter indicated it should be soon. It is primarily focussed on AudioSnap but there are a few other fixes that were important to stability that are also included. They will be listed in the update.
