VST METER SOLUTION (for 'Death Valley Yacht Club')
Hi there Dave I can recommend a couple of superb VST meters that you can insert into any FX bin in your project; the first is the PSP Vintage Meter which uses an 'analogue' needle display and the second is the Sonalksis FreeG which uses a vertical bar, much like the meters you got used to in GT3. Both plug-ins have to be installed, simply choose RUN on the download screen and install them to your chosen folder - you will need to run a VST scan or use the Plug-in Manager to add the new folder. The Vintage Meter works both in stereo and mono mode; two separate versions of the FreeG are installed, one mono, the other stereo. Aside from the controls on the front panels, both meters have a rear panel featuring more advanced options. Both units have reasonably large displays so they're easy to use, and as they are VST plugs, they both stay 'on top' of your project in any view. And here's the best bit - they are both completely free PSP Audioware Vintage Meter - Click HERE to go straight to the website, scroll down the page that opens and click on the Vintage Meter link to go to the download page.
- You can download the PDF manual from HERE
Front Panel view: Rear Panel view: Sonalksis FreeG - Click HERE to go to the Sonalksis home page, scroll down (if you don't want to enter your details) and click the link to the download page, the FreeG is right at the bottom of this page.

Steve, Many thanks. The FreeG meter looks like what I want. I'm going to download it now.

The FreeG meter is very nice. Exactly what I needed. I noticed one interesting glitch while using it in GTP4 though. Whenever the meter window is open, the transport controls go a little crazy. The stop button doesn't work and if you press the Start/Pause button, the playback stops but the rewind function doesn't work (even though the timer resets to 00:00. Closing the meter window seems to put things right again. FreeG seems to work OK in FL Studio and SoundForge. Not bad for freeware. Voxengo Span (SPectrum ANalyzer) seems to work quite well for a freebie too. Thanks again.

I should mention that the glitch mentioned above was probably the result of my loading several other VSTs along with the FreeG and swapping back and forth between them while the song was playing. When I just open a project, load the meter, and hit play, all works as it should.

Glad you sorted that Dave. I'm just taking a listen to your stuff on Mixposure - it's very well recorded and mixed Cargo Cult and Space Opera are my favourites; the acoustic on Cargo Cult is excellent.

Thanks for the kind words. I just listened to The Coffee House Band. Wow. Hi octane tunes! Great guitars and drums.
