EMU 1616m and windows 7 x64?

Hi,
Anyone using an EMU 1616m with win7 x64 successfully?  I am considering this interface and would really appreciate hearing success under this OS (really liking win 7 btw).

Thanks
David J

David I use the E-MU 1820 with WinXP 32 bit and recently went with the UA-101 for Win7 6 bit.
So far it seems like a good unit but I'm still trying to load everything before I can tell how it works.
It's USB and I'm hoping I don't regret not going PCI.
Anyway that's what I went with after looking at the 1616 as well as others. Good luck.

So far as I can find, the only 64-bit drivers allow playback in 48k only.  With that limitation, the card appears to work just fine.  Will EMU write better drivers? Who knows.

Not exactly sure what you said...if you're saying 48k only...It's because drivers for Windows 7 aren't offered for the 1616m PCI. ( the main reason I went with the Cakewalk UA-101- I didn't want to wait)

The 64-bit drivers (2.1) say they are for XP and Vista but will work in Windows 7 - but at 48k only, no 44.1, none higher. It sounds good, but I think Patchmix is even more difficult to deal with.  I'm looking to move to a Cakewalk interface, too.

Thanks for all the replies.  To me the main advantage of the 1616, over other comparable units in the same price range, are the effects, and the powerFX VST module to use those effects.  But, EMU has not pained itself to bother updating to make powerFX work with anything past XP.  Reply from customer service:

"While PowerFX VST effects worked for most users in XP, there are known issues using them in Vista and Windows 7. VST effects and issues using them in VST  host software is not the core strength of E-MU expertise. There are no plans to resolve the PowerFX issues for use in Vista or Windows 7 at this time."

Strange, even the manual states to use PowerFX over the previous solution of adding an effect to a patchmix track, then routing your audio via a VST plugin to that patchmix track.  Seems like that would be cumbersome and a PITA to use a lot, which is probably why they came out with powerFX in the first place.  All of the effects it comes with are to me what would set this unit apart from others, but without being able to really used them in an efficient manner, kind of takes the shine off that feature.

So I've decided not to go with the 1616.  Big red lights go off when a company does not care to upgrade their software to work with the latest operating systems, especially when Vista is nearly 4 years old.

That ua-101 does look intriguing.  So many to choose from.

I'm struggling and failing to install the 1616m drives in Window's 7.

The installer tells me the drivers are already up-to-date, and then the installer quits.  The hardware preferences in the control panel show the device's drivers are not installed.

I can not recommend EMU any longer.  :(  Find a different solution.

My EMU 1820m is working in win 7 64 at 44.1-96k.  I've only done some small projects with it-6 tracks since I got a new laptop but so far no problems. Using the latest Vista 64 bit drivers and Patchmix from EMU's site 2.1's? I think.  I don't think I've heard of any planned support from EMU either.  If yours doesn't work due to some architecture change between models that would really suck since yours is the newer one.  I'm not at my workstation right now but I don't recall having to run any compatibility settings either FWIW.

I own the EMU 1616M PCI interface.  It works great on my old Win XP computer.  However, my old computer has a max of 1GB RAM, so I bought a new PC which is a Win7 with 6GB of RAM.

I installed the EMU 1616M and was only able to record at 44.1k bitrate.  All the other bitrates, including the advertised maximum of 192k, are inaccessible.  Furthermore, all Patchmix effects are completely greyed out and cannot be used.
I went to the EMU website and found no drivers for Windows 7.  I contacted EMU via email and asked about drivers for Win 7.  They told me the Vista drivers would work just fine.  I downloaded and installed the Vista drivers and there was absolutely no change.  Still only able to record at 44.1 and still no DSP effects available.
The bottom line is that the 1616m is not much better than my preinstalled soundcard on the new Windows 7 machine.  EMU shows no sign of providing drivers for Windows 7.  I regret buying this interface and wish I could get my money back.  I strongly encourage you to find something else, based upon my own personal experience.

If you are using a Windows XP computer I can recommend it.  Not having any experience with Vista, I can't say how it will work in a Vista machine.  But it will definitely NOT work in a Windows 7 machine.  I am thinking about posting a Youtube video about the whole experience.

That is really a shame and inexcusable.  EMU has been around a long time and this is a little surprising.  Not sure what is more surprising though, that fact that they haven't kept up with OS updates, or the fact that they've survived as long as they have.
I'd still be in the market for the 1616 if it wasn't for lack of support.

Man it's hard to post images on this forum!  The other day there was an attatch image option and now it's gone?  Just an insert imager url thingy that obviously didn't work.  Guess I'll have to get a flicker acct. or something.  If I get it working I'll post the snips of my 1820M/Patchmix Dsp working in Win 7 64. Does the 16/16 use different drivers?  That would explain their demise.  I've always liked the 1820M it still sounds awesome.

    dfreeborg,
so Sonar 8.5 works well with the E-Mu 1820 as far as the ASIO goes?
I just ordered Sonar 8.5 because I was using Cubase SE 3 with the 1820 and couldn't get it
to record two mono tracks simultaneously for some reason.
I have Vista. Have you noticed any peculiar things about recording with the 1820 into Sonar 8.5? Don't mean to hijack the thread...I think this is somewhat relevant since we are discussing old E-Mu stuff.

Patchmix seems to be working for me W7/64 using the beta driver form the E-mu website except dragging an effect in Patchmix doesn't work. when I hold down the left mouse button, nothing happens. Under XP/32 an icon with a wave and 2 arrows would appear. Anybody else having this problem?
