B3 soft synth

Does anyone have any experience with and opinions about any Hammond B3 softsynths?

I've come across two, but haven't tried either yet.

GSI ORGANized trio - Tonewheel organ simulation

http://www.genuinesoundwa...a=showproduct&b=37

or

Native Instruments' B4 II

http://www.native-instrum...oducts/producer/b4-ii/

I just heard some great B3 on a Jonny Lang CD and really want one for my rack.

I have the original b4 and b4 ii is in the mail to me now.  I really like the B4 .....If you think you want b4 II you need to find it now because it has been discontinued and is only still available in a few places. Otherwise you will need to find someone willing to give up their copy and that my prove hard to do.

NI B4 is the best software emulation I've heard.

(Wanna hear some pretty alright Hammond fakery? Check out this Deep Purple cover ("Lazy") that I collaborated on with Mark Wessels, Randy Prier and Jon Buoy: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8515950. No, it's not the B4 soft synth, but it's not a real B3, either. It's a hardware keyboard, the Hammond XK-1.)

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

The B4 is the standard, however, if you need a freebie, the ORGANized Trio is not bad at all. Google it.

NI B4 II is what I use. It works through bitbridge in Sonar 8.52 64 bit so it should be reasonably future proof.

If you are worried about buying discontinued software there are some alternatives.

In Addition to the free ORGANised Trio GSI offer the  49 euro VB3 which is better and certainly worth consideration, some say its better than B4II particularly on the bass notes, I still prefer the B4 but I guess its down to taste. Download and try the demo. According to the buzz on the NI forums is GSI are sill developing this product and an improved  version with a 64 bit option will be released later this year.
    http://www.genuinesoundware.com/?a=showproduct&b=24

Linplug has Organ 3. I was not over impressed by the demo but try it yourself it may be to your taste.
    http://www.linplug.com/Instruments/Organ_3/organ_3.htm

Finally there is '57 Organ for NI's Kore player. If you want to know what I think.

I found the update at www.floridamusicco.com but I think I got their last copy. I just did a Google and samash.com has the full version for $199 or so they say.  Google shopping shows a few sites with it for that price. If you want the B4 II you will want to get it now.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Seems like B4 is/was the standard, but 200 simoleons for a discontinued plugin seems unwise.

I just downloaded the GSI ORGANised Trio and demo of the VB3. If VB3 is as good some of you say, it's a bargain at 69.25USD

Digital Villiage in the UK were selling it but now say there is no more stock.

Big online UK retailers Milleium Music and Dawsons both indicate they only have one left. If you want one you will have to act fast.

NI licenses are transferable so second hand may be an option.

I recommend the AZR-3 by Rumpelrausch...it's a free vst that emulates vintage drawbar organs, including distortion and rotating speakers...could get some kind of sounds like what you are after.

I've had the B4-I since shortly after it came out, and do use it all the time.

I never upgraded and might not do it specially since it's discontinued, and the B4-I is OK so far.

I do have a demo of the B4-II which plays for 20 minutes, long enough to know most about it. It is more flexible, has some broader sound options, and would get if I did not have the B4-I already.

One thing to mention is that both B4 are actually THREE music machines in one, pretty much independent, and for the purpose: The UpperManual, The Lower Manual, and the Pedals. If such trio is needed, I'd check if other softwares do the same. So I use 3 MIDI channels. Two keyboards and one MIDI-Pedal set, plus it is very responsive to the Swell Pedal (Expression Pedal), a must for me. It also allows for controll of all the levers of both manuals independently. Pretty much what is a B3, if all that matters, then it may need to be considered.

VB3 by the developer of Organized Trio was only mentioned once.  In my opinion it's a very solid instrument, offers great sound, lots of controls, plenty of presets, MIDI learn and more.  If you'd prefer to pay 1/3 the price of B4II then VB3 is it.

I have B4 II and VB3... in my opinion VB3 is better ( use it in my live kbd rig in a V-Machine and in the studio as well. )  Don't really touch B4 II any more.

I like the VB3 emulation more than B4II as well... VB3 is a little lighter on the CPU too, IIRC...
