First, thank you, eratu, for your complete answer to SONAR x64 versus 32.  You informed me that BitBridge is based on FX-Teleport in SONAR 64.  So this must be the source of the error message when ever SONAR hangs and/or I close a project.  I grant you that the project has a lot of Wave 32 bit plugins and I am running Superior Drummer under JBridge.  Is this a common problem with multiple plugins?

Yes, unfortunately, I have had a huge number of headaches with 32-bit plugins... and have spent countless hours of my life, some of which are detailed in my epically boring thread http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?&m=1852337&mpage=1 where I discuss some of what I've gone through.

There are four "Bridges" out there....

Sonar's BitBridge (which is a tweaked/enhanced version of FX Teleport, that has been beautifully integrated with Sonar) is quite good, but far from perfect.

Steinberg's VST Bridge which sucks. Period. I hope they fix this, just for their "honor's" sake.

Joao's jBridge, which is pretty damn good, and everyone should support that guy... helps with everything. Please buy this if you haven't already.

Reaper's Bridge... which, I have to say, works really well. Justin is a genius.

The new solution I investigated recently was VE Pro, which is just plain awesome. That has been the missing key for a successful configuration for me. If you often go over 4GB of RAM and rely on lots of plugins, this is a great tool to investigate.

The problem with a ton of 32-bit plugins running in bridges is that things can get dicey pretty quickly if you have a lot of instances. But that all depends on your plugins and usage patterns of those plugins and DAW app(s). Some people will be just fine. I wasn't with my particular config. Sounds like you're having some trouble too.

After a lot of headaches, I just decided to test VE Pro, and I was pleasantly surprised how well it works. It's not perfect, and not a true "bridge" in the sense that the other four bridges are... but it solves my main problems. I use it in conjunction with the other bridges.

So, for Sonar x64, I use BitBridge, jBridge and VE Pro.

For Cubase x64, I use jBridge and VE Pro.

Between those options, I can get pretty much everything I need to work up and running.

I can't vouch for what would be the best way to go with Waves plugins... but yes, when you get a Teleport error that is most likely the BitBridge server having some problem with a plugin.

If you don't use a lot RAM, then my initial suggestion would be to install Sonar x86 (32-bit) along side Sonar x64 on your system, bypassing your need to use BitBridge at all with Waves... and see how that goes. You can still run SD with jBridge to take advantage of more memory on an x64 system.

BitBridge is good, but it's not nearly as good as running the plugin natively within the host itself. Same with the other bridges. Besides subtle compatibility issues, there is some overhead as well which chews up precious CPU resources. So again, if you're not using a lot of RAM within the Sonar process itself, then I suggest trying to install Sonar 32-bit with Waves and seeing if your stability increases.

On my 64-bit DAW I have both 32- and 64-bit versions of Sonar installed side-by-side with no problems. Take your time figuring out your plugin directory scheme (I have several plugin directories for various DAW apps, etc.) along with manual usage of jBridge, and you can have a very stable environment.

Good luck!

How do you use JBridge?  I have presumed that BitBridge worked for most plugins and that JBridge was useful for stubborn plugs e.g. Superior Drummer.  In the VST properties of Superior Drummer I have told it to use JBridge.  Instead, should I run the Jbridge process that creates specialized DLLs for all the plugs?  Or how do you recommend taking full advantage of JBridge?
