Presonus Digimax Connection Question

Hi- I want to connect my Presonus Digimax to my V700R to give me 8 more inputs. Can someone clarify how many cables I need. Do I just need one Toslink ADAT cable to go from the output of the Presonus to the input of the V700R or do I need two one for input and one for output. Or do in need a BNC cable to link the clocks? I think the ADAT cable will transmit word clock data, but just need to make sure. Can anyone clarify? Thanks Mike

I'd go ADAT out from the Presonus to ADAT in on the V700 R. Get a BNC cable and link them that way. Make the V700R the master and the Presonus the slave. Make sure the presonus will run in standalone mode. ( no drivers, no other connections to the PC ). I'm not familiar with the presonus's capabilities but that should do it. Your presonus inputs should appear as V 700 R Digital 2 inputs.

    Thanks Craig,

One more question. I am looking at the manual and it has 4 choices for clock setting- I set it for internal clock. So then, I connect the BNC cable to the out of the V700R to the In on the Presonus- correct? Thanks Mike

Which manual? Set the V 700 R to internal connect the BNC out and the Presonus to digital out or BNC in. It's going to depend on the Presonus's clock settings, I don't know what's there.

    Hey bnova,

Have you managed to connected the Digimax to VS 700?  If so, care to comment on how they work together?  I have an opportunity to get a used one and would like some feedback.  Thanks

    Cheers,

It works fine. The 700R preamps are much quieter than the Digimax 48K. Mine is an older unit(8 yrs old). I sold mine to buy another V700R. Mike

    Thanks bnova.

I ended getting the DIGIMAX FS as, with the trading I got for my Yamaha 01X (good riddance mlan), the price was too good to miss out.  I got it set up today and have done some limited recordings with the pre's which seem fine for what I need.

This might answer your original question but I found was that if you want the VS700 to be the master clock, the DIGIMAX FS needs to have both the ADAT in's and out's connected to the VS700.  With the DIGIMAX FS as the master clock, I only need one cord to connect its ADAT out to the VS700's ADAT in.  I have only one cord so that's the way I have it set up.   Llike I said, it seems to work fine so I'm not going to try with BRC cable to transport the clock.

    Cheers,
