What video software works good with sonar 8.5 to post songs to you tube?

Hi, all...
I am rapidly learning how to use Sonar 8.5 (I love it!) and am creating eco oriented songs for Radio Ecoshock and general dissemination.  I would like to put some of them up on You Tube and I want an efficient means of stripping video/stills from the web and overlaying them against my songs' timelines.  For example, I've done a song on the gulf oil fiasco and want to pull some video footage and incorporate it into the song and upload to you tube...

Any thoughts?

While I'm reading reviews of several roughly $100 programs, they always focus on the audio as secondary whereas I want to build the video around the song... and do it rapidly, to be timely in addressing issues...

I want to be on this in the next couple days so any thoughts from you awesome experts are much appreciated...

I'm afraid you'd better use some video composite software. ae will do the trick.
import your song at timeline as a layer, then build your video material and edit pic one frame by one frame to match your audio layer. and then composite one works to publish to u tube.

similerlay, if you completed video material and wish to add an audio, you can use sonar or others to adjust and align to your picture.

If you have finished audio and just want to throw back to back footage/stills on the timeline (not needing multiple tarcks of video) I believe something as simple as the free Windows Movie Maker will work.

    Mornin' all.....

I haven't posted in some time but I've always maintained my lurking skills here.

I've worked with MS Movie Maker for the last few months as I'm making a DVD of
    my military experiences.
Movie Maker worked well initially but as I used it more often I found it quite slow, quirky and unpredictable when trying to 'save' my work.
I know it's free but MS Movie Maker needs improvements and I finally got frustrated with it.
I was able to import OK into Sonar (5.0 PE).

So...if you will be doing significant video work I would recommend Sony Vegas Movie Maker 9.0....$99 buckaroos at Frys.
I bought it two weeks ago and am quite happy with it.
Deeper program...worth the bucks....but I am still learning the program.

    Hope that helps a bit....

Hi, Vastmandana - As is typical on this Forum, you've already gotten several helpful replies.

I've been having a great time for some time now, doing what you want.  After thoroughly producing my audio in Sonar, I import it into Premiere Elements to work up the video.  Often I use still images and bits of video that I've either shot or found online.  With unlimited video tracks available, you really need more than the single track that Windows Movie Maker provides.  And with more tracks, you can cross fade, and generally get tighter control of your synch to music etc.  I found the program instantly understandable.  Video editing is really not a very difficult thing to do, especially when you have the right program.

Here's an example of one of my You Tube videos, music recorded in Sonar, all the images found through Google image search:

    A rovin'

When exporting the results, I edit the format pre-sets in Premiere so that the audio remains at as high a resolution as possible.

Adobe Premiere Elements is impossible to beat, and it's $79 - here's the link:

+1 to Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9.  Be Sure to get the Platinum Pro Pack version.  It has some nice extras and still less than $100.  Check out article for some nice info.

    Yes MarlboroMan23...

I have the Platinum Pro Pack and it was 99$.
Some of the terms and how to navigate everything takes a bit of time but
from my limited perspective it is worth that time to learn.

EDIT:  if you google for a bit CNET has some good reviews of several of the video programs.
I based my purchase on those reviews.

    Good luck...

Forgot to mention that you can export/upload directly to YouTube from within Vegas Movie Studio.

    vastmandana,

    1) SONAR is not a "video editing" program...You can import video into it and work on soundtracks but you can't edit the video;

    2) Unless you have some experience doing post-production with video, I doubt if you'll be able to accomplish your goals in "the next couple days"...

Sorry if this sounds negative but I don't want to raise any false hopes...SONY Vegas Pro is probably the most efficient video editing program on the market (for the price)...Having said that, there is still a "learning curve" so be prepared...

    Papa

Vegas is certainly the more popular program.  Premiere does it better for me though.

Vastmandana, my impression is that you don't expect to edit video in Sonar.  You've produced your music already in Sonar, and now you want a video program so you can put images to your track.  Honestly, most any video program will do you, and what you're wanting to do isn't difficult and won't take a long time to figure out.  You just don't want a program like the free Windows Movie Maker which has only one video track.

I use Sony Vegas Video and find it to be very intuitive.  There's a steep learning curve for the more fancy features, but it's not such a difficult transition if you are already familiar with using Sonar (IMHO).

Here's a video that I did in Sony Vegas Video, with the audio recorded live using Sonar:

I used the "multi-camera" feature to do the fast-switching between different video footage that was taken simultaneously as we played...

It seems to me from what he described he wants to do that a single track would be plenty...I've never used Movie Maker (I use Vegas Pro 8) but I would think any of the cheap/free programs would do simple cuts and dissolves ....if he wants any decent transitions/effects he'd have a large investment anyway....unless he likes cheese ).
Now if he's shooting multi-cam then of course he needs to make a serious investment.
    Just my opinion,
    Randy
