Problems when changing latensy (Rme Hdsp 9632)
Hi! I just got my Rme Hdsp 9632 and have some problems when changing samplerate (It get crackling/distorted) I've got two soundcards installed (as recommended by Rme) 1. Ewx 24/96 : System default 2. Rme 9632 : DAW In the Sonar > Audio > Advanced > Record Latency Adjustment the EWX keeps coming up. When I choose the Rme-card, I close and open again, the ewx-cards is there again. Playback/recording timing master is set to the Hdsp, drivers are asio, and the ewx is grayed out in the drivers-section For me it seems a little random. I sometimes can successfully change latency, but often not. I can always go back to a latency that was fine Aud.ini : [Aud] DataDir=D:\Cakewalk Projects\Audio Data PictureDir=C:\Cakewalk Projects\Picture Cache PicCacheMB=500 PicCacheZoom=128 PicCacheLevels=2 EnablePicCacheThreads=1 ComputePicturesWhilePlaying=1 CopyOnImport=1 ReadCache=0 WriteCache=0 EnableCacheWriteThru=1 VolMethod=1 PanMethod=1 DiskBufSize=256 DiskRecBufSize=256 ExtraDiskBuffers=2 DitherAlgorithm=0 ZeroFillMethod=2 RecordPreAllocSeconds=0 ZeroFillDB=300 FlushWriteBeforeRead=0 FlushMultiple=1 DefaultEqPosition=0 DefaultAudSnapOfflineStretchMethod=3 DefaultAudSnapOnlineStretchMethod=5 RealtimePreroll=0 SuspendPluginsOnBounce=1 [Wave] DefaultSampleRate=44100 DriverID=0 WaveInID=1 OpenInputFirst=0 SmpteMode=1 TimingOffsetMsec=0,000000 TimingOffsetBuffers=0 LatencyMsec=23 BounceBufSizeMsec=0 FlushOnStop=1 EnableMixThreads=0 MixThreadCount=0 EnableSetThreadIdealProcessor=0 AllowOfflineRenderMixThreads=1 UseMMCSS=1 MMCSSThreadPriority=2 MMCSSTaskKey=Pro Audio FreeMemOnUnload=1 AlwaysOpenAllDevices=0 MinimizeDriverStateChanges=1 RemoveDCOffset=1 EnableAsioBufferSwitchTimeInfo=1 EnableDeviceOutputLatencyCompensation=1 UseHardwareSamplePosition=1 BitsPerSample=24 FileBitDepth=24 RenderBitDepth=32 ImportBitDepth=0 ExtraPluginBufs=0 MixDezipperUsec=50 GapDezipperUsec=500 WaveInBuffers=8 WaveOutBuffersMME=4 WaveOutBuffersKS=2 MeterFrameSizeMS=40 SyncMaxDriftMsec=2 SyncDivisor=8 ProfiledMME=0 ProfiledKS=1 ProfiledWASAPI=0 UseWDMDmaForWASAPI=1 LinkSendPan=0 LinkPFSendMute=0 StopOnEmptyPlayQueue=0 KsUseInputEvent=0 WaveOutExtraBuffers=1 AutomationDecimationMsec=50 EnableSSEMixing=1 ThumbnailCacheSize=100 ManageASIOThreadPriority=1 EnableLiveADCRecalc=1 UseAlias=1 DropoutMsec=250 StartFadeMsec=2 StopFadeMsec=2 PanLaw=0 DisableIMDuringPlay=0 ShowMultiChannelInputs=1 ShowMultiChannelOutputs=1 [AudioSystem EWX 24/96 (3 in, 2 out)] MigratedDMA=1 Name=EWX 24/96 Wave Analog InputLatencyOffset=0 UseAsioReportedLatency=1 WidePacking=2 Interleave=2 Use24BitExtensible=0 UseExtensibleForMultiChannelIO=1 WDM.DMA.11025=110 220 82 165 WDM.DMA.22050=220 440 165 330 WDM.DMA.44100=441 882 330 661 WDM.DMA.48000=480 960 360 720 WDM.DMA.88200=882 1764 661 1323 WDM.DMA.96000=960 1920 720 1440 WDM.DMA.176400=176 176 176 176 WDM.DMA.192000=192 192 192 192 [Debug] TraceISR=0 RecBufFill=0 [DriverMap.WDM] UseWaveOut1=1 UseWaveOut2=1 UseWaveIn1=1 UseWaveIn2=1 UseWaveIn3=1 [SampleRates] Count=8 0=11025 1=22050 2=44100 3=48000 4=88200 5=96000 6=176400 7=192000 [ASIO Hammerfall DSP (6 in, 6 out)] InputLatencyOffset=0 UseAsioReportedLatency=1 [AliasInput] ASIO Hammerfall DSP 11 Analog 9632 (1)=ASIO HDSP Analog ASIO Hammerfall DSP SPDIF 9632 (1) L=ASIO HDSP SPDIF ASIO for EWX 24/96 EWX 24/96(1) Analog In Left=ASIO for EWX 24/96 EWX 24/96(1) Analog In Left ASIO for EWX 24/96 EWX 24/96(1) S/PDIF In Left=ASIO for EWX 24/96 EWX 24/96(1) S/PDIF In Left ASIO for EWX 24/96 EWX 24/96(1) Mixer In Left=ASIO for EWX 24/96 EWX 24/96(1) Mixer In Left ASIO Hammerfall DSP 1 ADAT 9632 (1)=ASIO Hammerfall DSP 1 ADAT 9632 (1) ASIO Hammerfall DSP 3 ADAT 9632 (1)=ASIO Hammerfall DSP 3 ADAT 9632 (1) ASIO Hammerfall DSP 5 ADAT 9632 (1)=ASIO Hammerfall DSP 5 ADAT 9632 (1) ASIO Hammerfall DSP 7 ADAT 9632 (1)=ASIO Hammerfall DSP 7 ADAT 9632 (1) [AliasOutput] ASIO Hammerfall DSP 11 Analog 9632 (1)=Asio Hdsp Audio ASIO for EWX 24/96 EWX 24/96(1) Analog Out Left=ASIO for EWX 24/96 EWX 24/96(1) Analog Out Left ASIO for EWX 24/96 EWX 24/96(1) S/PDIF Out Left=ASIO for EWX 24/96 EWX 24/96(1) S/PDIF Out Left ASIO Hammerfall DSP 1 ADAT 9632 (1)=ASIO Hammerfall DSP 1 ADAT 9632 (1) ASIO Hammerfall DSP 3 ADAT 9632 (1)=ASIO Hammerfall DSP 3 ADAT 9632 (1) ASIO Hammerfall DSP 5 ADAT 9632 (1)=ASIO Hammerfall DSP 5 ADAT 9632 (1) ASIO Hammerfall DSP 7 ADAT 9632 (1)=ASIO Hammerfall DSP 7 ADAT 9632 (1) ASIO Hammerfall DSP SPDIF 9632 (1) L=ASIO Hammerfall DSP SPDIF 9632 (1) L [DriverMap.ASIO] UseWaveOut1=0 UseWaveOut2=0 UseWaveOut3=0 UseWaveOut4=0 UseWaveOut5=0 UseWaveOut6=0 UseWaveIn1=0 UseWaveIn2=0 UseWaveIn3=0 UseWaveIn4=0 UseWaveIn5=0 UseWaveIn6=0 UseWaveOut7=0 UseWaveOut8=1 UseWaveIn7=0 UseWaveIn8=1 UseWaveIn9=1 [ASIO for EWX 24/96 (3 in, 2 out)] InputLatencyOffset=0 UseAsioReportedLatency=1 Thanks!

Make sure you are using the ASIO drivers for the RME. Not at my machine now - but its on the Audio Options Dialog.

Make sure that Windows sounds are not using the RME but the EWX.

Yes, it's asio FWIW, What you describe sounds exactly like what you'd experience if running WDM-KS... and you changed buffer size (latency) on the audio interface without re-running Wave Profiler. You'd hear distortion... If the audio ports for both units show up the the Record/Playback Timing Master drop-down list, you have to be running in WDM-KS mode. ASIO only allows one audio interface to operate.

Thanks, but only the hdsp shows up there. Try deleting the Aud.ini file... and resetting your audio preferences. If that doesn't work, try disabling the EWS card in Device Manager. The RME is a rock-solid interface.

I deleted aud.ini but the problem remain. Disabled the ewx and the performance was maybe better, but some problems still.. Tried with Reaper, no problems there

if you are changing the sampling rate - are you also changing the sample rate in sonar? they both need to be the same. Thats under Audio | default sample rate. Also, make sure you're running the RME in 'Master' mode and not 'AutoSync' since you make no mention of external clocks.

I have noticed the problem in another soundcard that settings does not come though in Sonar unless you turn off engine and then on again. The samplerates are renegotiated then. Have you tried that? Up on the right in Sonar gui.

Have you tried that? Up on the right in Sonar gui. Tried it. No difference. It all seems a little random to me. Sometimes a latency works fine, sometimes not. I'm able to use some latencies, so, I'm not totally stuck :)

From the main menu, choose Options | Audio. On the General tab, make sure "Playback Timing Master" and "Record Timing Master" are set to the same channel of the 9632 - in my case I use the SPDIF L channel. Click the 'Advanced' tab. 'Driver Mode' should be ASIO. Under Synchronization, choose "trigger & freewheel". Under 'Record Latency Adjustment' make sure the 9632 is selected. Also make sure "use ASIO reported latency" is checked.

If thats the case - disable and/or yank the other card and turn off all windows sounds. You don't need a second card for windows sounds. I'm using an RME HDSP-9652 as the only card in my machine - the onboard RealTek is diabled in the BIOS. The RME works with whatever audio apps I need it to - and so should yours.

Yes, that's an option. But, planning to use Reaper more, so, I'll just wait and see a little.

I should also mention that I have a screen-redraw problem (Sonar). The screen redraws once a second or so. It came on the same time as I installed the hdsp-card.

Ok, I nailed it. I've used wrong drivers that didn't match the updated firmware. I was confused by the win32 2000/XP Sonar patch for driver 2.94 and therefor used it. Updated driver to 3.083 and.. everything is perfect :) Thanks for all help!
