missing plugins

Hi,

I have reinstalled Sonar 8.5 several times after a hard drive crash and after installing a new sound card (SB X-Fi) Titanium.  I am running the 64 bit version of Windows 7 and installed the 64 bit version of Sonar.  The problem is that certain CWP files will play OK (like TUTORIAL1), but others won't play, (like SONAR Audio and MIDI DEMO2).  The file does load after an error message and the playhead moves and you can see the dB indicator moving, but no sound.  The error message when this file loaded was "The following plug-ins are referred to by this project, but could not be found...etc."  It lists the plugins as Cakewalk FxEq (Bus: 'Aux 1'), Cakewalk FxReverb (Bus: 'Aux 1') and Cakewalk FxReverb (Track: 'Guitar').  When I clicked on the Online Info button on this error message I was taken to a page that said:

The following plugins were missing from your project.
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified
/Owners/GetPlugin.asp, line 84

When I installed Sonar 8.5, I did a complete install of every plugin, so I'm pretty sure they are all in my machine somewhere. I also immediately installed the 8.5.2.222 patch.  I have my Sonar install on D drive, not on system C drive.

How do I find these plugins and/or ODBC drivers?  Thanks.

Zaffer

plug in manager , its a bit of a mind bender but you will have to scan for your plug ins using that tool or just find them in the folder where they are hiding  and copy them to the proper place. There is also an issue with 32 bit and 64 bit plug ins that I'm in the dark about.  I'm still back in 32 bit land. Seems using W7 64 bit will cause a some plug ins to not work. There are many who know but there are probably asleep right now.

Those particular plugins are 32 bit DX that Cakewalk hasn't ported to 64 bit so they wont run. There are quite a number that have been ported and do work.
Unfortunately Bitbridge only works with 32 bit VST and VSTi plugins.
You can always install the 32bit version of SONAR as well and use it for those occasions.

Many of us have both installed for just such an occurrence when 64 bit just wont cut it. I have one MFX(MIDI) plugin that wont work in SONAR x64 so I use SONAR x86 for those times.

The following plugins were missing from your project. Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005' [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified /Owners/GetPlugin.asp, line 84

That error was from the server you contacted, not from your computer. Whatever that "online info" was supposed to provide, the query failed at the server. The message has nothing to do with your missing plugin problem, so no need to go searching for ODBC drivers.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

I'm having the same problem as Zaffer, but missing Session Drummer 2/3 and Beatscape--they are unavailable from the Insert\Synth Rack menu.  I un/reinstalled SONAR PE 8.5 after a virus, then reinstalled all SONAR components in the correct order as before, then updated to 8.5.1, 8.5.2, and 8.5.3.  Checking the Plug-in Manager options, SONAR will not scan for the plug-ins on startup as it used to, nor re-scan for failed or existing plug-ins.  I do see a folder for Beatscape (Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Cakewalk) but is this the proper place for it?

UPDATE 8/22/10:  The problem has been solved by a complete un/reinstall of SONAR.  The uninstall is not complete until you go into the registry and manually remove all Cakewalk folders that remain; otherwise the reinstall will be flawed and cause the problem I described above.  The Cakewalk uninstall utility doesn't do that.  Don't forget to save your serial # and authorization code.  Additionally, a project saved while using the "imperfect" install of SONAR will crash the properly installed one when I play it now, so I needed to retrieve the previous project version.  Luckily, there was only project like that.
