MIDI pedal

Help me I'm dumb. :p

I am looking for a device that is simply a pedal (or better yet, a series of 2-3 pedals) that I can use for turning on and off effects as I play using the record automation function in Sonar.  Everything I've found has been an all-in-one interface/effects processor/MIDI device like the VS-20, which if I weren't on a shoestring budget would be what I'd buy and I wouldn't make this thread in the first place.  I already have a controller surface I'm happy with (nanoKONTROL) and an audio interface I like (Fast Track Mk II) so I don't need all that stuff.

Also, I own a keyboard controller with a damper pedal - if there's a way to make that work, that'd be even better.

I'd much rather record everything dry and then turn on and off effects in software.  Maybe I'm going about it the wrong way and I'd be happy to listen to reasonable explanations as to why - if I just need to buy a decent multi-effects pedal, make that case.  Thanks!

Is this what you're looking for?

(You may need to have longer shoe strings to budget this one) lol..

Is it hard to setup nanoKontrol? I'm just about to buy that (velcro shoe lace budget) Any issues using it with Sonar/ACT?

Well, that's what I started looking at, but it appeared to be some sort of all-in-one MIDI/audio interface, and I wasn't sure if I could just disable the interface part somehow.  I'm using Guitar Rig 3 LE, btw, at least for now.  I don't really NEED Amplitube, but I guess it'd be a bonus addition if I can get around using the audio interface.

I like the nanoKONTROL...it does just what I want, being able to play with faders and transport controls.  I used this little guide:

Here's the Behringer MIDI FOOT CONTROLLER FCB1010:http://www.behringer.de/EN/Products/FCB1010.aspx

Below is a setup tip at the ableton forum.....the users seem to stand by this pedal.

I have the FCB 1010 and I just got StealthPedal as part of an Amplitube 3 upgrade deal. They are two different animals. I got the StealthPedal becaus eit was an audio interface too, but the IK dude who helped me made it quite clear that it could be MIDI only, and control any VST with MIDI learn, or CCs that you know and can assign to SP.
SP comes with a MIDI editor and you can change assigned parameters as needed on the fly easier than with the FCB1010, where you have to put the pedal in Sysex mode and send data from one of the editors available online (doesn't come with it, but you can find the link on Yahoo Groups FCB group) or edit on the pedal itself.
The FCB is far more configurable, however, having all the footswitches and two pedals, different modes, and there is a Firmware chip available that does even more.

Phoenix, that's useful information, thanks.  It kind of makes the Stealth Pedal more attractive - I have no desire for another audio interface at this time, unless it also has good built-in effects (because at that point I'd make an exception).

Although, honestly, all this discussion kind of makes the V-Studio 20 kind of attractive since we're talking about $50 (plus the cost of one of the approved pedals, so let's say $100) or so for a ton of functionality.  I could probably Fleabay my Fast Track MkII and nanoKONTROL for that much (if not more) to make up the difference.

    *sigh*

    Hi Derfunkenstein,

I'd like to mention that with MIDI-Yoke and MIDI-Ox, it is possible to change midi events so as to translate hardware controllers into other functions.

Even notes from a MIDI keyboard can be assigned to do functions as it seems you want. So if what you want to do is push a pedal and it sends a MIDI mesage you are after, that can be done with MIDI-Yoke/Ox. It is very powerful free software, in case you want to consider it.

The changes, of course, are valid as long as you enable those utilities, plus there's lots more that can be done than can be readily explained.

Also if you buy a set of pedals you can also translate those pedals to do whatever you wish, of course within reason and ability of one and other things.

Those utilities do not take significan cpu resources, nor add any noticeable latency, or similar concerns. There's some learning curve, though, but well worth it.

NoKey that's awesome.  That's exactly the no-cost solution I was hoping for. I have a sustain pedal for my KeyRig 25, so if I can turn that into a toggle for effects processing, I'm good.
