I bought a new cpu (windows 7, i7860, 8 gigs dual ram) and reinstalled Sonar to 64 bit.
I just installed Superior Drummer 2 and Sonar doesn't see it.
Are there issues like this when the programs are 32 bit?

Help!

Did you rescan your VSTs?

I have Session Drummer 2 in my 64-bit Sonar, but why aren't you using Session Drummer 3 (x64)? Its much better.

I have Session Drummer 3 (64 bit), no problem there....I'm referring to Superior Drummer 2. I tried rescanning...no luck there

Thanks

Sounds like it may not be compatible with 64-bit. You can install Sonar 8.5.3. 32-bit along with 64-bit for those things that don't work with 64-bit.

Firstly, with 32 bit plugins in 64 bit you will need to set your VST scan folders to also check Program files 86x. The plugins will then be found and opened by Bitbridge which runs 32 bit only plugins in 64 bit Sonar.
Most things will work just fine like that.
However, you will need to download (for free if registered) the 64 bit version of Superior Drummer. It's still a beta at the moment but is fully functional and ready for official release as far as I know. I'm perfectly happy using it.
If you get to run 32 bit Drummer in 64 bit Sonar, it will all seem to work as desired but will simply produce no sound.
Get downloading :)

when I installed Superior it was 32 bit
It won't work in 64 bit Sonar unless you use Jbridge (at least that was my experience)
Once I got it working I then installed Superior 64 bit & it worked fine

Go to Toontracks and download the 2.2.2 update. Get the 64-bit version.

No longer in beta. As bitflipper said get version 2.2.2 and install the 64 bit and or the 32 it version of SD2

I've just finished setting up my W7 64bit OS. Have installed Sonar...only as 64bit version. I haven't installed any of my old plugs. What happens with plugs that were 32 bit and have an update that is 64bit? Will they be installed in the x86 program file section of W7? Then if I apply the 64bit update to the plugs...will they remain in the 32bit W7 section...but be now 64bit? Or do these updates pick up all the original 32bit install data and dll's and move them to the 64bit part of W7?

You need to make sure that the 64 bit version of Superior Drummer is being installed in the 64 bit folder tree of Win 7.  This is necessary so that Superior Drummer will be accessable to a project whether you are using a 32 bit or 64 bit version of SONAR without reassigning the softsynth.  SONAR will pick the right version.

Just be sure to create a path to the 64 bit version in the VST Scanner and rescan your VST plugins.
EDIT: Just to be sure that I am answering with the appropriate info, make sure your 32 bit plugins go into the (x86) Program Files tree.  64 bit plugs should be in the 64 bit tree.  Watch your install paths like a hawk and make sure this is happening.  I didn't have too much problem doing it but my mistakes occured when I tried to force plugins into the wrong folder structure because it didn't "look" the same as Win XP.

But the original Superior Drummer is 32 bit....so do I install all of that to x86 and then after all that install the 64bit update into the 64bit part of W7?

Then would I end up with 2 dll files for SD? One in the x86 and one in the 64bit program files tree? Do I then just remove the dll file from x86 and direct Sonar to look for SD in the 64bit section?

Also, would I have to install my old EZdrummer first (before Superior Drummer)  so that SD recognises my Nashville files...or can I install SD and then install the Nashville files after that?

I'm wary of whacking the hell out of my registry by putting my foot wrong

I assume for Sonar it's like I said...unless someone says otherwise...

I would suggest installing both the 32bit Sonar as well as the 64bit.  The amount of additional space that it takes is minimal and it gives you the flexibility of flipping back and forth between the 2 for continuations on older projects where you may have used a DXI and haven't frozen the midi to audio.  In most cases the VSTs (32&64) will share the same library files but need their separate .dlls.  There are DXI wrappers available that will allow you to use most DXIs but have to be purchased I believe.  When I made the change over I flipped back and forth between the 2 quite a bit.  I still use 32bit when I need to use rewire.

It may be a nice fall back on if you need to complete a project to be in your comfort zone with a known entity.
