CPU Usage in 64bit - WOW!
One thing I will say, SONAR 8.5 64 bit is a beast!! I had 6 audio tracks, 5 drum midi tracks and 10 synths (21 tracks) and each had their own Camel Audio FX or reverb on top of that! And it barely cracked 25% CPU usage!! (Project5, as a reference, would never have handled that many tracks and FX without bouncing some tracks first). AWESOME!

I've run a Core i7 based machine w/ 12 GB RAM and 64 bit S 8 with 50 tracks of audio and the meter *never* went over 11%. No lie.

Project5 was never optimized for multicore, IIRC... so don't use that as a reference.

I use i7 950, 12 GB, W7 64-bit & Sonar 32 bit. I can use as many tracks and effects I want to. In past it was not possible to use several Perfect Spaces, Linear Phase EQs and Linear Phase Multiband Compressors but now they all run together smoothly. And I can surf in the net while recording overdubs with all these effects running :). Most of the time CPU's are almost idling. They must get bored...

Wish I could say the same. Several of us on here with 4+ cores are really struggling with two or three tracks and minimal plugs. Absurly, I have a 6 core box with 4gb ram and experience dropouts etc and high cpu usage on a three track audio project with very few plugs and NO vsti.

i have a quad core set up w/ 8gb ram and i too can run whatever i want with little cpu usage. i wish dimension was a multi out synth so id never have to bounce tracks to audio for mixing & adding fx.

I regularly mix 60+ tracks and 15+ busses with heaps of plugs (even external FX) on an AMD 2.5 G Dual Core machine with 4GB and Win XP32. I'm so used to the CPU running red that I feel uncomfortable when it doesnt! But it WOULD be nice having some more horses, I must confess :O)

jkleban Ivan, Did you perform the aud.ini FIX for multicore CPUs? Jim (embarrassed shuffle whilst examining shoes) er.... I did A fix for multiple cores, but it had nothing to do with aud.ini as far as I know. Would you mind elucidating a little here, please? Thanks! EDIT: Went and read the whine thread about cpu usage again and it would appear that the aud.ini workaround is pretty much the same as the registry editing I did which enabled all six of my cores and DID show (in the windows 7 task manager) that all six cores were behaving. But it still didnt st#op Sonar from reporting heavy cpu load under minimal conditions and I was unable to get below a 256 buffer before getting major audio problems in that same three audio track project.

Oh and LJB I too have my "old" 2 core AMD that is happily tearing it up still with 64 bit XP and only 2gb of ram. Go figure.

I'm sure once you figure out the culprit you'll be in good shape, my old AMD 4400 X2 still eats tracks and Perfect Space instances for breakfast! I've yet to go past 40% on both cores throwing everything I want to at it; a crazy number of FX and tracks - of course, I don't use virtual instruments at all. Here's hoping you figure it out, a four core machine should be a beast!
