Is DimPro x64 working in Sonar x64?
Hello All, Does anyone have the faintest idea how to get the DimPro x64 1.5 update to work with Sonar Producer 8.5.3.282 x64. To put it differently, could anyone indicate whether they have actually been able to get the 1.5 update to install and work properly in Sonar Producer? Any suggestions per my previous failed attempt described in the previous post http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2074056 Glen

Thanks Stratman... good news I guess, but it means that I may have to strip Dim Pro off my system and start from scratch. Can't say I relish that thought, but I don't know why my experience with the 1.5 update has been so painful...

Hmm, I just was looking up the 1.5 patch to download it again and noticed the following text: Windows Only: On the "VST Folder - Browse to where your previously installed VST plug-ins are located" window, click the [Browse...] button and select the parent folder that Dimension Pro/LE is installed to. NOTE: Do not select the Dimension Pro/LE folder itself. - The default location Dimension Pro/LE installs to is C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins
- For 32-bit Dimension Pro/LE on a 64-bit OS, the default location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Vstplugins
- If you have installed Dimension Pro/LE to a custom location, select the parent folder that your Dimension Pro/LE plug-in folder is installed to
Click [OK] and make sure the correct path (see Step 4) is listed under VST Folder- Click [Next]
- If you are prompted with a "Browse For Folder - Select the folder where your VST plug-in is currently installed" window, select the parent folder that Dimension Pro/LE is installed to. NOTE: Do not select the Dimension Pro/LE folder itself. This path is the same as in Step 4.
- Click [OK] and then click [Install]
I'm not so sure that the above text was present when I last attempted installing the 1.5 update. Anyway, I'll try to adhere to exactly what's written and see if that makes a difference this time...

DP 64 1.5 is working for me in Windows 64, but I discovered that it works best when I open Sonar in "run as administrator" mode (right click on Sonar icon and choose run as administrator). If you're still having problems try this method. Good luck, Lynn

OK, so everytime I try to install the x64 bit version of Dim Pro 1.5, it said that the 1.2 update needed to be installed. In the end, I just couldn't get it to take, so I uninstalled everything DimPro off my system. Started all over again from the installation DVD. It installed the 32bit version under the x86 program directory , but never gave me an option to select a 64bit version. I then installed the 1.2 update and it update Dim Pro to 1.2 without problem, but never gave me an option to select a 64 bit version. I have Sonar 64bit installed. Anyway, I then tried installing the 1.5 update and selected 64bit, because it finally presented that option. It didn't seeme to want to install a 1.5 64bit version of Dim Pro, likely because it could not find a 1.2 version in the 64bit Program folder. So I stepped back and tried to install the 1.5 32bit version over the 1.2 32bit version that did exist. This worked no problem and I can use the version 1.5 32bit version of Dim Pro now. This is just not good enough. I have a top of the line system with Sonar 8.5.3 64bit and have spent hours trying to get these stupid installers to get a 64bit version of Dim Pro 1.5 working on my DAW. Can anyone please help by telling me how to get either version 1.0 or 1.2 to install the 64bit dll required so I can install the 1.5 64bit update!!! This is really driving me crazy.

Hey, I just realized something that I did different this time. I didn't select the dxi functionality when installing Dim Pro throughout the installation process. Is it possible that I didn't receive the option to install the 64bit version, because of that?!? I felt there was no need to install it, because I was under the impression that this functionality was erased from the 1.5 update, but perhaps installing the DXI version is required by the earlier installeres to get the 64bit plug-in to load. Appreciate any advice you can provide. Failing that, I'll probably have to just start all over again and try installing everything, DXI and RTAS. I'd prefer to to hear any tips, as I'd really like not to spend another 2-3 hours grasping at straws.

Well, I got it working... finally. SO it appears the stupid installers would always default to the x86 Program folder and only store the 32 bit dll, until I did the following things. 1. Set the Sonar icon property settings to run as administrator. 2. I copied the Dimension Pro folder from the x86 folders into the 64bit Program folder, in the Cakewalk folder. 3. Re-ran the 1.2 Dim Pro update and still selected only the VST plug-in (ignoring dxi and RTAS), pointing the the install toward the vstplugin folder in the 64bit program folder, whenever it asked where I wanted to store things. 4. Did the same when I ran the 1.5 update and selected the 64bit plug-in, as I had done in previous attempts. This time it actually worked and created the 64.dll in the 64bit program folders. Tried it in Sonar and it works. Now I don't know which of the various things I did above was the the trick to getting it to work, but I'm done and am not going to waste any more time trying to figure that out. I have installed and updated software hundreds of times over the years and this has to have been the weakest example of intelligent software programming I have ever encountered. I sure hope that a programmer who can't write an auto-installer isn't working on the next version of Sonar... Sorry for the rant, but I gave up a lot of spare time to make up for someone elses shoddy work.

Now you've got me thinking?? Do I need to update my Dim Pro? I recently updated to Win 7x64, installed Sonar 8.5, an then the other updates to arrive at 8.5.3. Dim Pro was included with v8.5 on the install DVD. Do I need to still update Dim Pro separately?........(maybe it's to early in the morning for questions?) Thanks, Michael

I am having same problem. New 64-bit Windows 7 system. Installed and registered Dim Pro from original DVD, updated to 1.2, then tried updating to 1.5 and same problem OP occurred. Error Message said that 1.2 was not installed - but it is - the x32 version at least - I checked the version number that was running in Sonar synth rack. I am not inclined to copy x86 program files as OP did as a workaround. So what is the solution? I just want to simply install and run Dim Pro 1.5 x64 with no problems. And the 1.5 installer does not let me do it. Anyone know how to do this? PS. I read all of knowledge base and setup Dim Pro VSTs directory as described and running Sonar with Admin privileges. Anyone?

OK, I am cutting/pasting this text from cglensmith's other post, because it reflects exactly what is happening to me. If anyone knows how to update Dim Pro from 1.2 x32 -to- Dim Pro 1.5 x64 - I would appreciate it - the install program does not let me get there - unless I am confused. Or the guy that wrote this update program is". "No matter what I try I can't get the stupid installer for 1.5 to recognize that I have 1.2 already installed. Now I haven't tried gutting DIM PRO off my system and starting from scratch, because I'm afraid that won't make any difference and I'll have wasted even more of my time. This is supposed to be an UPDATE, after all... and not a new install! I'm also reading about people having crashes, but don't know whether that is the actual experience or just a problem with their system. Based on my observations below, there may be cause for concern. I guess I'll only find that out, if I can ever get the update to even work. Before I started on this adventure, I had the Dimension Pro folder under Windows7/ProgramFiles(x86)/Cakewalk/ with a DimensionPro.dll 1800kb file dated 03/04/2006. I also had a Dimension Pro folder under Windows7/ProgramFiles(x86)/Cakewalk/vstplugins with the same dll as the one identified above. I would assume the 32bit 1.2 version. I also had a Dimension Pro folder under Windows7/ProgramFiles/Cakewalk/ with a DimensionPro64.dll 2956kb file dated 03/04/2006. I also had a Dimension Pro folder under Windows7/ProgramFiles/Cakewalk/vstplugins with the same dll as the one identified above. I would assume the 64bit 1.2 version. I can open up either of these two plug-ins inside SPE 8.5.3, the 32 bit version works and the 64 bit creates serious problems. Consequently, I have only used the 32bit to date. In either case, they both identify themselves as being the 1.2 version. Now on to my journey and the installer. Download update and select RUN when asked to load the installer. Select OK to English Yup, so select NEXT I want 64bit, so select it and then NEXT Select all the license checkboxes and select then NEXT No Lite version for me, give me D-Pro and select NEXT Oooh, scary warning about the need for 1.2 update to be installed. Whatever, select NEXT Now the conFUusioN begins... "Browse to where your previously installed VST-plugins are located" There are at least 4 different locations (see above), so how am I supposed to know which one?! I'm not really known for my psychic ability... OK, so you're gonna make me guess, let's see I want the 64bit plugin, so how about picking the vstplugin directory where the present 64bit plugin is... too easy... Windows7/ProgramFiles/Cakewalk/vstplugins OH OH, should I stop there or should I pick Windows7/ProgramFiles/Cakewalk/vstplugins\Dimension Pro? Crap! How would I know? OK, time for a Crap-shoot... I'll still pick Windows7/ProgramFiles/Cakewalk/vstplugins, select OK. There the input field is complete, time to select NEXT and cross my fingers. Woo hoo! Update 1.5, here I come! Huh!?!? What's this? Another pop-up box? OK, what does this thing say... "Select the folder where your VST plug-in is currently installed?" Aah, I just did that didn't I!?! Oh, my. Maybe they are giving me the option to "currently install" it somewhere else!? OK, what folder should I pick? Hmm, I'll store it in the same place as the last one. There's already four directories right now, why would I want to create a fifth one! I'll just have the installer write over top of the old one... Let's see, Windows7/ProgramFiles/Cakewalk/ Hmm, now there is still that Dimension Pro and vstplugins directory to choose from again, but I want this in my plugin directory, so I'll just pick Windows7/ProgramFiles/Cakewalk/vstplugins. Of course there is a Dimension Pro folder inside this folder, where the actual dll resides, but my psychic powers predict they want the folder level above that, so I'll still pick Windows7/ProgramFiles/Cakewalk/vstplugins and select OK. Woo hoo! Update 1.5, here I come! What's this?! A message that says "Cannot locate the required version of the program on this system. Please install the correct version of the program to use this patch." Now it wants me to select OK! Ah no, it's not OK. I already have 1.2 installed!"

From Install instructions... WTF does this mean??? On the "VST Folder - Browse to where your previously installed VST plug-ins are located" window, click the [Browse...] button and select the parent folder that Dimension Pro/LE is installed to. NOTE: Do not select the Dimension Pro/LE folder itself. The default location Dimension Pro/LE installs to is C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins For 32-bit Dimension Pro/LE on a 64-bit OS, the default location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Vstplugins If you have installed Dimension Pro/LE to a custom location, select the parent folder that your Dimension Pro/LE plug-in folder is installed to Click [OK] and make sure the correct path (see Step 4) is listed under VST Folder Click [Next] If you are prompted with a "Browse For Folder - Select the folder where your VST plug-in is currently installed" window, select the parent folder that Dimension Pro/LE is installed to. NOTE: Do not select the Dimension Pro/LE folder itself. This path is the same as in Step 4. Click [OK] and then click [Install]

Well, I was just about to update Dimension Pro LE, but now, scared to death! I just checked, its dll, is in Program Files/VST plugins, because I am running 64 bit version of 8.5.3. According to update directions, when I choose file it should be Program Files/VST plugins, because it doesnt exist in x86. Although I do have Guitar Tracks Pro 4 on the same computer, but it is not listed there. So am I correct in this, even though the dll in the Program Files/VSTplugins says 32LE? Forgive me if I confused anyone, the 8.5.2, and 8.5.3 were easy as can be!

For 64bit Check your system to see where the following folders are: C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\ Dimension LE C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\ Dimension Pro Mine are as listed above, they could be in in the Vst folder One of these will contain the following folders(likely Dimension LE) Documentation Midi Multisamples Prograns Resources Sample Pool Once you have located the above run the install program If you set up is as above in the same folders then: 1. Select 64bit from first option box. 2. In first box that comes up after the License agreement select D-Pro 3. Then select OK for 1.2 installed box 4. If your setup is the same as mine browse for C:\Program Files\Cakewalk and select that ( !DO NOT SELECT! C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension LE) for next step 5. worked for me but 5a. is what Cakewalk techs suggested for gray36(see below) 5. Repeat the same for the next box as well and select C:\Program Files\Cakewalk again. OR ***5a. (from gray36's post below. Repeat the same for the next box as well and select C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\VST plugins\Dimension Pro 6. Then complete the install. For 32bit repeat the above steps and select C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk for step 4 and 5. Now open Sonar. Open Tools Cakewalk plug in Manager. Make sure that C:\Program Files\Cakewalk and C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk are included in the OPTIONs list of folders to scan. If not add them. The click run Scan Vst plugins. Should now be ready to rock. Make sure the vst you select (64bit) says Dimension Pro (Dimemsion Pro x64) With the brackets. (From gray36 post #26 below I called Cakewalk, and they said, do everything as listed, first time asked to Browse, go to Program Files\Cakewalk\VST plugins, but second time around, when asked to Browse, got to Program Files\Cakewalk\VST plugins\Dimension Pro! I just got off the phone 15 minutes ago. I actually threw in the C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\VST plugins\Dimension Pro, to be scanned in the Plug-in Manager! I checked, and it is listed in VSTi Dimension Pro, clicked on, came up with a 64dll, so I am now taking a break. Hope someone got something out of this, when in doubt, call Tech, was talking to a person in 3 minutes!)

(These are the instructions I followed from another post (cglensmith from above #4) with a clarification on using the parent directory. I could not get it work after about 5 different attempts so gave up on it and used the dxi for about a month after the update and then finally figured out that it was the parent directory that had to be used.)

I called Cakewalk, and they said, do everything as listed, first time asked to Browse, go to Program Files\Cakewalk\VST plugins, but second time around, when asked to Browse, got to Program Files\Cakewalk\VST plugins\Dimension Pro! Hope someone got something out of this, when in doubt, call Tech, was talking to a person in 3 minutes!

Thanks for update gray36. Glad you got it working. I updated my instruction post to include your last post(#26) and the alternate step 5 as suggested by Cakewalk. Hopefully a few more people will be able to get it functioning.
