Robin's Riffs - October 14, 10 6:14 PM ( #1 )
Cakewalk’s Robin Kelly has put together a series of tech tips for SONAR users in a section we are calling Robin’s Riffs. Each week, we will include a new tip.
This week, Robin Kelly shows you how to achieve a layered synth sound in SONAR. In this example, Robin shows you how to create a simple layer using two instances of Dimension LE. You can use any instrument to recreate this layered sound. This technique will work with SONAR 8 and SONAR Home Studio 7.

I like this tip Robin. It's easy, but produces amazing results. I now have a new diversion as I spend hours discovering new soundscapes. Thanks.

Thank you, Robin.

I wonder though, in the fifth paragraph you say "plus any effects toured through SONAR," did you mean routed, and not toured?

Is there any chance we can get a Barbershop quartet tutorial?

Those Barbers really know a thing or two about layering.

Typo in this line:

All we need to do is tell SONAR that we want to trigger more than track (and synth) at the same time.

Works with other synths as well. I mean you can use Dimension Pro and Z3ta for instance and layer them.

Thanks. These should be listed on the CakeTV page too in my opinion.

Can anyone explain to me why the shift key is pressed whilst clicking on the second echo input?

I can't see what happens differently compared to not pressing shift.

How to create layered synth sounds

I looked at the Cakewalk site for the weekly tips, but only found the one above. Are there more than the one above? (a link would be appreciated)...
Thanks,

I don't know about that, but in Sound on Sound Magazine, they have a how-to column for Sonar in each monthly issue.  Good stuff!
