Keybinding for pan and volume envelopes???

The new enhancements look fantastic and I'm really excited to see so much has been done for the workflow. But does this include ease of envelope additions? If I have ten vocal takes for a harmony or something and I wish to pan these all over the stereo spectrum, I have to right click, add envelope to every single clip and it takes forever!!! A key binding for this would be amazing! Or just as good would be the ability to select all ten clips and then add an envelope to them all at once. Currently it still only adds one by one. Such an easy thing to implement and it's all I ask for!!

Please say that this (or something similar) has been done to make it faster!!!

Actually quick group can be used here. You can quick group multiple tracks, then select your automation type from any of the selected track edit filters and all tracks will automatically switch.

So let's say you have 4 vocal tracks
You can quick group all 4 tracks
Select Volume Automation from the first track's edit filter
all four tracks will now have volume envelopes on them
If you keep the group you can adjust the volume of all the tracks at the same time
If you "break" the group you can edit each track individually

Another example is in the SONAR X1 Studio video you see multiple tracks displaying transients. I selected the tracks and switched them all to transients with one command. I did not have to switch each track one by one.

Here's your first SONAR X1 "Power user tip". Shift click on any data in a track and it will automatically switch to editing only that data.

Let's say I have a vocal tracks with volume and FX automation on it. I can shift-click on the volume envelope and now only the volume envelope can be edited. The FX automation will not be affected, the clips will not be affected etc.

This is a quick way to switch edit types for a track and it is really easy and intuitive.

    Hope that helps,

    Robin

That sounds incredibly useful (ie, the edit types switching).  Will the documentation for the new Sonar be extensive (I hope)?

Thanks for the reply, Robin. I actually meant for multiple clips WITHIN a single track. I could always put each clip into a separate track and use quick group (which I do currently use), but that kinda defeats the purpose of allowing layers of clips within a track... I want to keep all my clip layers (which could be 10+ clips) within the single track as they all take the same processing, but are just panned differently.

I am very excited about the new editing tools though, can't wait to see the workflow improvements! Will be recording my album next year using X1 from start to finish and I can't wait! Hey are we gonna stop causally calling it SONAR now and just start calling it X1? I think we might be...

To add Clip Gain envelopes to all clips in a single tracks, for example, simply change that track's Edit Filter to ... Clip Gain Envelopes

Did anyone actually answer the question about whether or not adding a new vol or pan envelope (to one or more selected clips) was key-bind-able?  That seems to be the thread's thrust.

I'd pay $99 for that one feature alone (and others would, too).

    So...?

Seth, if it works just like you say, I will kiss you!! Straight after wicked!

I'm not really fussed if it's keybindable or not, that was just one possible solution to the problem. And provided a usable solution has been developed, I'm happy!

But does the track edit filter provide clip pan envelopes too?

Yes, it provides Clip Pan as well, no kisses required. It actually provides every envelope and data type. We'll have videos up soon which go into greater detail so you can see it in action.

I can shift-click on the volume envelope and now only the volume envelope can be edited.

Now, that's the kind of enhancement you can eat with a spoon! More, please.

There are more - but you will have to wait for more details until we dig ourselves out of release mode.
Envelope creation is extremely simple and powerful in X1 with the edit filter. You can even use the new quick groups for setting envelopes on a single effect parameter across all selected tracks in one gesture. (for track or clip effects as well as synth envelopes)

From Seth's post #5 above, it looks as though the edit filter is the key. So if you can switch to "edit clip volume envelope" with a key command, then it might be.

    Any clarification Seth?

I can certainly forego the key-binding if they've sucked it into a more global workflow. As long as I don't have to repeat the command 200 times I'll be happy. Extremely actually.

Well, you might like this then ...

So lets say you have 10 tracks you want to work with which each have 20 clips on them. There's your 200 clips ...

Instead of accessing a shortcut 20 times do this ...

    1. Select the 10 tracks
    2. Hold Ctrl
    3. Change any of the tracks Edit Filters to Clip Volume, or whatever parameter you want to show
