Automation Modes - November 13, 10 12:15 AM ( #1 )
For those here who mix in Sonar via a control surface, how do you overcome the absence of touch or latch style automation modes found on most other DAWs?

Are we really left to automation performed with a fader and edited with a mouse, or just mixing with a mouse even though I bought a control surface(which I had before I got Sonar)?????

Is there a way to record a simple fader move, and have the fader return to its original position when it is released, without the mouse??

If not what is the point of having a motoized control surface, to watch the faders move? Why even have a Cakewalk issue (VS700) motorized control surface if it cannot perform the basic function for what it was designed for?

If you intially add a volume envelope to a track, you'll get a flat line at the current fader position. When you subsequently enable write automation, and record some moves, the fader will jump back that nominal starting level when you release it.

When the effect is active in the programmer these controls work the same way to playback speed / spin amp box lists except that report directly to the actual effect of the programmed value (instead of being corrected on it). Adjustment, both show the BPM value (if the effects are the same speed), or amount. Amplifier control always shows the relative amount. For technical reasons, if they operate in relative mode, which will return to 0% when the selection has changed.
