I wouldn't uninstall the old.  Will the uninstall remove your C:\ProgramFiles\Cakewalk     .vst folder?

It appears that X1 did copy Cakewalk.ini and other preferences such as my external HD audio folder preferences.

I just installed right over 8.5.3 and it worked just fine.

Correct there is no need to uninstall 8.5 or previous versions of SONAR. You could end up blowing out shared audio directories, plugins, projects etc. SONAR X1 is a separate install into a separate directory, go ahead and install it and then point it to your previous files.

The GUI is absolutely beautiful.  So smooth looking.

Everything is visible on the desktop.  This is fantastic.  The scrollable console is wonderful.  The screenset saves are absolutly perfect with my 3 monitor setup.  Very professional Preferences menu.

The Install instructions say you can install X1 and then uninstall the older version or you can uninstall the older version and then install the new.  I had 8.0 and 8.5.3 installed, I uninstalled them, restarted the PC and then installed X1 and so far no problems.  The uninstall didn't remove my added VST plug ins such as Antares Auto Tune EFX, Focusrite, EZ Drummer, etc.

All my projects that were created with 8.5.3 open OK in X1 with the effects that I had set up, but all my projects are very small and basic projects.

    First comments

Took about 1.5 hours to dl just the X1 parts 1-2 and extras

    Browser is magnificent!!!!!!!
    Ditto the Smart tool

Interface will take some getting used to

    Minor issue
Docking tts-1 in the docker (and other Soft Synths) cannot be used docked as there is no vertical scroll bar too see the bottom controls. Have to either undock or enlarge dock size. I'm using a single monitor so far.

Yes, my Sonar Projects folder in the root directory (E:\ for me) remained in tact.  It added a "Cakewalk Content" folder in the root directory too.

The "Sonar Projects" is the only Audio file directory I have.
