Waveform preview gone? *SOLVED*

Does anyone see the wave form preview when you press the button? I can't make it show up at all no matter what project I open old or freshly created. I press the button for it on my master bus, it lights up, but no waveform prints in real time. Anyone else?

this sometimes helps but sometimes doesn't (and will most likely break if preview works): try enabling/disabling vertical grid lines in track view...

Yeah I tried that also. I can't get it to show me any wave form info unless I make it clip...I see some red the whole time its clipping, then I turn it down and it stops printing the wave form. Turn it off and on...nothing. So yours is not working either?

    "it's working for me."

Try this. Turn on waveform preview. then select a audio or midi clip so your multidock pops up.. if that doesnt hide it, start clicking on the tabs in the multidock like Pianoroll, console view, video etc..

I can't get it to go away. There was a spot where it did stop. I tried to recreate it and I could not. I'm pretty sure it happened when I changed screensets (love this feature!).

    UPDATE: Try this.

Have a midi clip piano roll as the first tab in the multidock. then open a console, matrix and video.

While playing a song make sure the waveform preview is active and open close the multidock repeatably. That should bug out the gui to hide the waveform preview. It has something to do with the pianoroll (maybe not linked to a midifile clip no longer?) anyways that what was giving me problems. Just having a console matrix in my multidock seems to work fine.

Danny I've just tried this and had the same issue but there seems to be some weird behaviour. On projects I've brought over with the waveform enabled, they're showing up no problems. On another project I've not been able to toggle the preview on my buses.

Weird is right.  I tried my first project...got around pretty good...dumped mix to stereo wav.  Opened up a new template, imported the stereo wave file to track 1........no waveform of the audio.
Ive clicked everything I can find, and cannot see the waveform....I can see track view but no waveform....help   How are you toggling between console and track views??

IN PRIOR VERSIONS OF SONAR IT WAS RECOMMENDED TO PUT THE "PICTURE FILE" ON A SEPARATE DRIVE...MAYBE WITH X1 THAT'S NOT THE CASE. ?

I may be Im just rushing the learning curve.

Its a bug. For me if I have a pianoroll view in the multidock with the console and other windows it "hides" the waveform preview. As soon as I drop the pianoroll from the multidock, it works like normal. Like I said, it might be because the pianoroll wasnt attached to a midiclip. Take out any pianorolls in the multidock as see if it gets rid of the problem.

downsouth: what I'm talking about is different than what you're mentioning. My issues is, bring in a project or even just a wave file. Send it to your master bus. On the master bus, there is a little button called "Waveform Preview". It is default set to off. When you turn it on, it is supposed to draw a wave form AS you play audio in real time of all the material that is being fed through your master bus so you can see what the over-all wave form of an entire project would look like. This does not work at all for me while it is enabled unless I clip the master bus. As soon as I back the volume down, it stops drawing the wave form. If what I'm saying is unclear, I can whip up a 1 minute video showing you what I mean...but I think you'll understand what I'm talking about once you read this.

Jon: I'll try that and see if it makes a difference for me. As of now, I can only get the thing to kick when the bus is too hot and clipping. It draws a bunch of red. As soon as I back it down, it stops drawing things completely. I tried to see if there was a setting somewhere, but there isn't. Thanks for trying this out for me everyone. :)

I think I got this sorted now. It defaults to grey which is the same color as the background. Change the color of your waveform preview to something brighter and see if it works for any of you that are having this issue. I sure never made it grey, but I didn't think to check that because I didn't change it from default. It works now though with a new color choice.

I'm having the same problem here, no waveform preview,

I did check the vertical grid on/off, and color shemes,

sadly, that did not solve the issue...

Hopefully this will get resolved soon !

Are you sure you've adjusted the preview color? You have to adjust it and then restart the program. It's in the first choice for "busses" in the color category. If it's the same color as your background, you will not see it. Do a test for me with your preview bus on before you change the color. Bring in a project and turn up that bus as loud as you can and see if the preview prints a red preview. Make sure you clip that bus. If you see red, it's working. All you have to do is change the color to something brighter and you'll see it when you're not clipping.

I did try rebooting Sonar, but at the same time X1a patch was released, so next time I rebooted, it was on X1a, and now ... it seems to work .. I can't tell if X1a, or rebooting fixed it .. but the important thing is that ... it now works !

    Thanks !
