Delete Initial Audio Track - Disables Screen Sets
Here's something I just discovered. First thing - Screen Sets are disabled if you have no track in your track folder - there must at least be an audio track in order for Screen Sets to work. In my new projects (Normal Template and cntrl 'N' to open) I start with a single Audio track just to get screen sets to work. But... IF YOU DELETE THAT AUDIO TRACK IT WILL DISABLE SCREEN SETS Even if you add a new or multiple tracks, screen sets are gone - at least for me and my system. Try it and see. Not sure where to report this stuff. EDIT: I've been able to reproduce this every time.

If you use a normal template WITHOUT at least an audio track (haven't tried it with MIDI track) and open it it will screw up ALL your screen sets as well. There's something about that initial audio tack that is the key to screen sets. I have to go back redo all my screen sets now since Ii loaded a new project without that audio file.

Layouts - as were previously available prior to X1 - had the same situation. You had to have at least ONE track in order to invoke a layout.

ba, So I assume you open a new project with at least one track? Audio? If you add tracks, then record, then delete that audio track (all initial audio tracks?) do your screen sets still work?

HumbleNoise ba, So I assume you open a new project with at least one track? Audio? If you add tracks, then record, then delete that audio track (all initial audio tracks?) do your screen sets still work? I haven't tried that per se -- I just know not having at least one track (I don't know if it has to be audio or MIDI) prevented previous versions from invoking any saved layouts - so based on what you're saying, it seems the same rule applies. A project is like a document. Without something in it - it's just blank space (except for menus, etc). If deleting some but not all tracks causes that problem I'd say that might be a bug in that case.

Interesting - it does sound like a very similar situation almost like the layout coding got moved to screen sets - kinda makes sense. It was driving me crazy. I was cruising along then I'd think, "I'll get rid of this Audio track," but never put that as the cause for the screen sets to go hay wire. Took hours to figure it out. No one has tried to duplicate I'll assume. Till then I'll keep my audio track until (if) CW addresses the problem.

Well I think, as I said, Sonar wants to see at least ONE track (I'm just not sure if it HAS to be an audio track or it can be a MIDI track) for layouts to work, so I'll assume (for now) it's the same for screensets.

I totally get what you're saying and I think you're right. What's weird (to me) is that even if you have a dozen additional tracks, if you delete that initial audio track, the screens sets stop working. It's as if that initial audio track has some connection to the project or at least to screen sets. There's no way it was designed that way.

It's as if that initial audio track has some connection to the project or at least to screen sets. There's no way it was designed that way. Ok I think you may have a corrupt install because here's a few things i tried - and they worked as expected: - Opened "normal.cwt" (the one that comes with X1) which only has 1 audio and 1 MIDI track (and busses). I tried each screenset and they all appeared as they should. I deleted the audio track and tried each screenset - they all were as they should be as before. I deleted the MIDI track (so no tracks existed now) and could not use screensets (as expected). I closed and opened Normal.cwt again. I inserted a new audio track. Then deleted the same way as above. Everything worked exactly as expected - including deleting the new track, at which point no tracks existed and screensets were not available at that point. So either you have a problem in the install - or maybe something else. But I'm hoping the results of my test helps you work it through.

Thanks for taking the time to check that out. I'm not at my computer but I'll try the steps you've outlined and see if I can duplicate.

I tried the steps you outlined and if I delete either the initial MIDI OR Audio track all my screen sets are messed up. Is there anyone else willing to try this to see if there's something wrong with my set up? Or X1? Please. I need all the screen real estate I can get and find those initial track a big distraction. No one else encountering this?

There's no reason deleting any track but still having other track(s) in the project should stop Screensets from working. Unless this is some bug I'm just not seeing, of course.

I'm not sure what a bad install behaves like and really appreciate your helping out Billy but the problem is consistent on my computer. I also understand how we each have our own problems and busy work schedules but if someone else would be so kind as to try the above steps I would REALLY appreciate it. If not, I get. I'll figure out my own work around.

After 3 'full clean uninstalls/reinstalls" I was able to get it work for the most part (and now that I've solved some other issues it's working well). Sometimes "Windows" and "installers" don't work right initially ;) It's worth a shot, no?

I have exactly same problem. Did you find any solution? I'm using X1 Essential, not sure if it matters.
