SONAR X1 and Faderport

Anyone have a Presonus Faderport working in X1?
Mine works fine in 8.5 but in X1 the lights work but the buttons don't.
I've installed the latest drivers. OS is XP Pro service pack 3.

Well, I haven't gotten as far as you did with Win 7x64 Sonar X1x64. I would want to know what the solution is.

OK, read Presonus forums - what a frustration. There's no support for the thing... But somebody mentioned that they've seen somewhere

regsvr32 "c:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Surfaces\FaderPort.dll"

That somewhat fixed it for my X1Ax64 install. Make sure to copy the faderport.dll from presonus installation folder before you run this. If you don't have any other problems like firmware not updated it should work.

One more thing don't forget to enable "aftertouch" and "channel aftertouch" in Sonar menu...

Good Luck

regsvr32 "c:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Surfaces\FaderPort.dll" worked for me, but only after I did this:

80070005 denotes ACCESS IS DENIED error. You'll need to register the module from an elevated Command Prompt window. To open an elevated Command Prompt, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

Not sure if this is fully resolved yet, so I'll put in my two cents.  Doing the above "works".  Do the above and when you get the terminal box go to the C:/Program Files/Cakewalk/Sonar X1/Shared Surfaces folder.  Then, at the prompt type regsvr32 faderport.dll

This will register the dll file in the win registry.  There are still a few functions on the FP that do not seem to work, I'm still going through it, but the major functions DO work.

Hope this helps someone.

Re:SONAR X1 and Faderport 2011/01/09 17:35:34 (permalink)
Well - I had the Faderport installed on a system with 8.5 on it. Then I installed X1, and the Faderport would not work nicely with X1. What I did was completely remove the drivers (even cleaned up the registry using regedit), and then installed them again. That did the trick. Everything worked as expected.

At this time I am using a dual-boot system with 8.5 on one partition and X1 on the second one (well actually I have more partitions in use, but they are for Linux - wont bother you with that). As I am increasingly using only X1 I think I am going to erase the "8.5 partition" within a little while. I just wait for the X1b update and if this addresses the latest small niggles I have it is the end of that partition... but enough of that..

On the clean install the Faderport works exactly as expected. All buttons are behaving the same as in 8.5. Be sure to use the Faderport control surface entry on the setup, and the "USB Devices" as in- and output. If you have more than one controller make sure the Faderport is the last one. I also use the E-MU Xboard61 (nice cheap MIDI Keyboard with aftertouch and rotating controllers) and noticed when the Faderport was on top weird things where happening - don't ask why I really don't know.

Hope this helps a little..

For Win7 64bit:

Make sure you copy the DLL from the correct location to the stated path:
64bit is here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\PreSonus\FaderPort\FaderPort Dll\Sonar\x64

Copy to:
C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Surfaces\

Then open command window (Run as Administrator):
cd C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Surfaces\
C:\windows\SysWow64\regsvr32 FaderPort.dll

Hi Everyone, I just bought a Faderport and am attempting to get it to work with Sonar X1 Producer and my Windows 7 machine. I followed the PreSonus set-up instructions and got all the way to step 2 before getting stuck. The instructions say to go to /Steinberg/(Cubase or Nuendo)/Components and open that folder. I only have a Steinberg folder so I guess this wouldn't work. I then read all the information in this section of the forum and attempted to follow the suggestions but kept getting error messages such as, "The module "Faderport.dll" failed to load." I confess I'm not much of a "techie" and am an official "old guy" so I'd sure appreciate any step by step instructions anyone could provide this fossil. Thanks! Mike

Presonus needs to add this post to their SONAR instructions.

Seriously. I was able to get mine up and running with this instructions in this thread. However, the firmware update failed out for me.

A post in the Presonus forum indicates they dudes are working on a new set of drivers.

I go mine working in various bits.

Firmware update required a good/short USB cable, not connected to external hub.

Lots of messages at the presonus forum for other products.

Make sure the MIDI faderport ports are enabled.
And are selected in the surfaces interface for I/O.

Try using a shorter cable.

Thanks, JM.  If the MIDI faderport ports were not enabled and/or not selected in the surfaces interface would all of the other controls still work? (Everything else but the motorized fader works).

Regarding the USB cable.  Well, that's an issue.  The computer is in a separate room 35' (cable run) away.  USB runs through an extender then to a HUB into which my mouse, keyboard and the Faderport plug in (in the control room).  Mouse and Keyboard and the rest of the Faderport controls work so I was hoping length/distance wasn't an issue.

FYI USB 1.1/2.0 specifies a maximum cable length of 5 meters (~16 feet) USB 3.0 does not specify a max length but they all get dicey after 3 meters.

Yes.  I know about the 1.x/2.x spec.  That's why I have the extenders before the limited length.  Still,  I know it's pushing things.  I guess my next step is to try the Faderport directly pluged into a box just to make sure it actually works (while under warranty).

Mine is intermittant.

Last night, installed on new partition and  all worked well.

This morning, can't open projects with the FP enabled.

With 32 bit partition the fader moves about when opening some projects. Need to disable,...

I hope Presonus fixes this soon. Otherwise time tobuy something else.

The Reaper forum has lots of plugins for the FP to use the buttons for other than just the Track view.

Gonna install reaper later to test the FP.

I was able to get the motorized fader to work (yes, 35 feet away from the computer going through an extender and a Hub!) by re-installing the firmware.  It's the top solution for this problem when you go to their web site.

Really enjoying this unit, now!

Re:SONAR X1 and Faderport 2012/08/20 10:38:37 (permalink)
I can get the FP to work if::  (X1 and 8.5.3, 32 and 64 are the same)
I open a project, add the FP

But, if the FP is already added most projects will not open
  Sonar hangs
and the FP fader moves erratically

Saturday I learned of a new firmware, 1.3.8, and installed it. No problem with install.

Tested in X1, same result.

Found a note that ALL midi things had to be disabled/uninstalled before the FP install. So I disabled the audio interface, and all virtual midi stuff. Installed the FP and tested in an empty project. OK.

Added the audio interface, virtual midi cables, and opened some of the sample projects. Got through about 3, and then same result. Tried a couple of my projects. No joy.

Thinking maybe the FP is broken, or something is weird about my hardware, I installed Studio1, and Reaper, and tested in empty and small sample projects. Mostly no problem. In Studio1 the fader would resist movement a bit. And in Reaper the buttons did not glow, but they did function. changing, saving, closing and opening: all good.

In the presonus forum there are complaints, and happinesses, for ALL kinds of hardware and software. Many complaints that the FP does not work with Studio1, does not work on the Mac, and so on.

It appears to me that Sonar is initializing the control surfaces before loading the project. If it did so as the last bit of loading it might fix my issue.

Could it be particular plugs, instruments,...

I have spent way too many hours over the past year attempting to sort it. Truely disappointing.

Exactly what I was seeing on a SONAR project from a year ago!  Very annoying.

No problems with Studio One.

I used these posts last year to get my FP working. this year I upgraded my computer to a 64 bit , Windows 7 to be exact. While I am running sonar and all plugins in 32bit, nothing on this thread seems to work for me. everytime I type the command prompt in I get an error message saying "specified module could not be found" and to make sure the binary is stored at the specific path. This alas means nothing to me. PLEASE HELP

Have to use full paths for the dll.

Place the correct dll in the surfaces folder.

then open an elevate command prompt, copy the line below, right click in cmd windows and paste, press enter.   quotes are required.

64 bit:
regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Surfaces\faderport.dll"

32  (don't have a 64 booted now, so adjust as needed.)

regsvr32 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Shared Surfaces\faderport.dll"

To make the Presonus Faderport work with Sonar X2 do the following things:

1/ download the driver installer package from teh presonus website @
[link=http://www.presonus.com/uploads/products/1243/downloads/FaderPort_135_617.exe]http://www.presonus.com/u.../FaderPort_135_617.exe[/link]
2/ Now on your PC;   navigate to the ‘64bit dll’ file which is situated within;
C:\Program Files (x86)\PreSonus\FaderPort\FaderPort Dll\Sonar\x64’
3/ copy and paste this to;
C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Surfaces
4/ run the command prompt by clicking
Start
Programs
Accessories
Command Prompt  - (Right click and select: ‘Run as administrator’)
5/ Paste this into the command prompt window, (directly after the last piece of existing text)
cd C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Surfaces\
C:\windows\SysWow64\regsvr32 FaderPort.dll

6/ Press ‘Enter’
7/ Close command promt box
8/ Open Sonar X2
9/ Open any project
10/ Click on the Contorl surface box at the top.  (it may say ‘no control surfaces’ assuming you have none at present) and click ‘Select hardware/controller surface’
11/ Click on the yellow star symbol at top right corner
12/ from the ‘controller/surface’ drop down box select ‘Presonus Faderport’ (This will appear now as an available choice, whereas it did not before, right?)
13/ from the ‘input Port and output Port drop down boxes, select Faderport, and then hit Enter
When you click enter, you will hear your Fader on the Faderport return to zero.

Your done!     Hooray!!!!!!!!!!

Also supposed to enable key aftertouch, and channel aftertouch.

=================
It is not working for me: w7 and w8, 8.5.3, and x2.

I have spent way too many hours on this.

'Tis possible it is some kind of interferance with the drivers used by the audio/midi interface.

I will have to get a new interface to use with w8.  X2 will not work with the EMU 1820. 8.5.3 does.

After I get it to work, (Never does control buses), I cannot reopen sonar. Sonar hangs and the fader moves erratically, and the mute button flashes.

Anybody got at least a 2 in 2 out 24 bit interface with midi I can borrow?

My audio interface is an Emu 1616M.
I have experienced a few hangs and BSOD crashes.
These happend as i pressed the REC button on the faderport!
The Emu could be the problem im not sure?

But that aside it works well and has let me record and mix a few tunes.
