ok.  I just posted an issue and saw yours so I thought I would try it.  I did an entire four min track and it took it about 15 seconds.  It worked ok for me.  I also tried to crash it..lo

Yeah Same here.  Just attempted my first V Vocal clip creation - tied it over and over with different track counts and CPU loads and Sonar Crashes every time I try and use V Vocal.

I have been using V Vocal a bunch in 8.5.3 and it has always worked well, but this is my first try in X1.

    Yeah

Every configuration and all CPU loads I get this when attempting to take a short clip and convert it to V Vocal

    SONARPDR.EXE has stopped working

Then when Windows offers to give information on the crash, here is what pops up in the info window:

Files that help describe the problem:
    C:\Users\Studio Computer\AppData\Local\Temp\WER460F.tmp.hdmp

Rats, I cannot get it to work on a 0% CPU load, clean PC, 1 track, and a 5 second audio clip, no effects....
still crashes and closes Sonar X1

russ5ell do you have the patch 1A installed?  I think I was able to run V Vocal before I installed the 1 A patch now if I am remembering correctly...because I tested the V Vocal right after I installed X1 and it worked fine....

Did the 1A patch kill V Vocal?

This just started happening for me as well.  I've used it plenty in the past (prior to X1 I think?).  I've tried the 32bit and64bit versions.  I've tried an empty project with just an audio track...crash crash crash!

it was a pain in sonar 8-5,,
i could only make small corections then bounce the track quickly to get the vvocal back out of project,
you can;t let it just run as you keeep playing with it or other stuff..
apply , corect clip, bounce, that was the only way its a powerful tool to just apply and select, hit correct to the pitch you choose, then bounce,iv not payed for x1 yet im trying the demo so far it works, but its not a tool i would use with any faith that it wont ctd in front of my client.

I had no problems with it before.  Multiple tracks and clips, splitting etc etc.  I think I even used it in X1.  But I just tried to use it again after some time and it won't load the interface without crashing.

I have found that freezing all my soft synths allows me to use V-Vocal but having soft synths unfrozen and large RAM usage causes a crash as soon as V-Vocal is invoked.
I reported this on CWBRN-3942 and would hope anyone else would too. The more dissenting voices there are the higher up the priority list it will go.

At the time I thought it was specific to when I had ReFx Nexus in my project but now I am not so sure.
It only happens to me when the project uses large (>4GB) of RAM.

I find it crashes when mem is used up, my biggest issue is I can go for days using V-Vocal without any issues, then all of a sudden the v-vocal section gets greyed out, no matter if I bounced to clip or not, the only way to restore was to reinstall X1

Is it only with larger clips?

I'm not used to it crashing all the time. If my project doesn't have any synths, I don't see many crashes. But if I add a session drummer, a couple of dim pros and a zeta2... well then, I get some crashes. Some times, I find it works if I click the mouse tenderly. It requires a sensitive, loving touch.

So . . . are we saying V-Vocal crashes are related to X1 Win 64 bit systems ?

I've just finished a long session editing Vocals and BG Vocals in V-Vocal on my X1 Win 32 bit system, and had no troubles with crashing, but I do make the clips I'm editing fairly short. (Verse, Chorus, Bridge etc . . )
I use V-Vocal all the time, never crashes.
Are the crashes happening specifically on longer clips, say 3 minutes plus ?

I just fixed my V Vocal, which was crashing and producing the messages seen in this thread.  First, check to see if (on a 64-bit system) the files "cronus.dll", "VpEnc.dll", and "VPSoloDec.dll" exist in your "Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared DXi\VVocal" folder.  If any of these files is missing, there is your problem.  There should also be a Skin folder underneath the VVocal folder as well.  If the Skin folder is missing, VVocal will work (if the 3 files are present) but no GUI will appear.
To fix the problem, you have to find copies of these three files and the Skin folder, although I'm not real sure how to tell you to do that (perhaps Cake support can make them available) ... I had them on another computer that I installed Sonar on where V Vocal just happened to be working, and just copied them over.  The files are probably on the install disk/dowload package, but darned if I know how to get to them.  Good luck!

I was having V Vocal crash after I read in another thread about this kind of issue and I retested it after I had installed X2a Producer.  I ended up calling Cakewalk Support and learned there are some pretty well documented and fairly painless steps to do a complete uninstall and then reinstall of Sonar X2 ( and X2a). I did that whole process in less than an hour and V Vocal was fixed.  So that is a way and it worked well for me.

The documented steps are in a Knowledgebase article for uninstall and reinstall Sonar.

"... and learned there are some pretty well documented and fairly painless steps to do a complete uninstall and then reinstall of Sonar X2 ( and X2a)." Is it really necessary to do that? With the exception of V-Vocals, my version of Sonar X1 (Studio) works well. In general, I wonder, why everyone has to contact the technical support individually, although it seems to be a the same problem for many users, with a general solution...?

Windplayer, yes, yesterday I individually called Support and was advised the method they recommended was a reinstall of Sonar overall to clean up V Vocal crashes if they are occurring. I followed the instructions that weren't too painful and cleared up the issue.  I did hear from Support that folks had tried other means but that the full reinstall method was less troublesome and more sure fire.

I really wonder what could be different the second time around. Unless the uninstall doesn't wipe things completely and that has some beneficial effect.

V-Vocal has been prone to crashes on many systems since it was introduced.  Cake claimed to have made stability improvements in previous patches, but it has always remained unstable with my sytems (2).

Other have mentioned, if you can get it to work, immediately bounce down when you finish the edit.  Then save!  Then continue.  I realize sometimes it will crash upon opening, in those cases, I have taken the offending track, inserted it in a new project and fixed it there.

The tech support suggestions were not successful for me, and many others.  I assume they could never locate the instability problem that plagues many of us.  Some people are able to use it without issues, some options are:
1 - Get new pitch correction software (Melodyne/Waves/Autotune etc)
2 - Hope to have better luck on your next DAW build
