"Missing Person" presentation... Happy New Year all!

There has been many, many excellent productions posted here in the past year (my list is quite extensive). Some have been brought back to the foreground by Tim "timidi" and others (a great idea which has the potential of becoming a tradition), and I wholeheartedly agree with these. On the other hand and unfortunately, quite a few which are also notable, slowly disappear never to be heard from again. A recent case in point which was brought to my attention and touched me quite a bit was Robby's "Missing Person" project. As many of you no doubt remember, at the beginning of 2010, many "Songs" forum regulars (9 members specifically) took up the challenge of creating music to support Robby's lyrics. Having the chance to listen in sequence to all submitted songs, I was literally amazed at the end results. So much so, that I did a small presentation on my site regrouping 8 of these original and exquisite versions.

The omitted version is simply due to one of the authors being unreachable - if you're reading this "Ralph Wiggum", I'll happily add your version... with your permission.

These songs have already been posted individually and at different times during this past year, so there's no need to comment again (unless you feel an uncontrollable urge to do so ). But I really strongly suggest a close listen and in sequence. If you're tempted to listen on laptop speakers, but have access to a Hi-Fi system (if such a thing still exits), it is definitely worth your while. Without further delay, you are all invited to my first "Notable Tributes" presentation - "Missing Person" (original concept and lyrics by Robby Robbins).

This was such a great idea...I'll never forget that time on the forum. (Thanks again, Robby!)

And JC, what a great idea!  I think you should be nominated as the greatest promoter and cheerleader of our music.  I can't wait to listen to all these again.

It certainly was Janet, and I could kick myself for having missed it the first time around. Wordsmith comes to mind, when I read those lyrics. A gem... no less.

Ready when you are James. And thanks back at you for participating in this project. Your version is outstanding "yoyo" music. And I say that with the utmost respect.

That was an especially memorable project, especially since I knew the background of the lyrics.

    Thanks for doing that.

Good point Herb. Being familiar with the history definitely brings another level of appreciation for the project. And thank you for your participation and excellent  classic "Country" version. Top production!

    Happy New Year everyone!
Wow JC. I'm speechless. This is/was incredible. I don't know why, but I missed this whole saga here. I listened to them all and what a bunch of great stuff. Wonderful, wonderful. Robby wrote a beautiful song. Your presentation and web site are great. Thanks for doing this JC. Really cool.

And, thanks for the mention. Yea, I tried to get going on a 'best of 2010' thing. Didn't get too far with it. I think I did about 5 tunes (which took quite a while to find). Then, I started thinkin, I'm going to offend someone cause it's hard to remember everything, ya know, and like, I didn't want to leave anyone out and well, it was also taking an awful lot of time and I couldn't find ones I remembered and yada yada:)
    Anyway, Thanks.

Yeah everyone actually co-wrote with me, because everyone tweaked it a little to make it fit their style? But I think that was cool :-) It's a fitting tribute to an amazing friend, may she rest in peace, I miss you Miss April. I just completed my remix (I think) and sent it to JC to check out. If he agrees that it's better, he'll replace my original version with it. I may post it here for mix comments from some of the mix masters... My skills are still humble in that area but thankfully improving due 100% to the feedback provided here and practice. Happy New Year everyone!

Another tidbit about Missing Person is that it was actually used as evidence in court... My ex, when she heard me telling my son on the phone that I wanted to play my new song for him, and I told him it was called "She's a Missing Person" And she said she was so afraid that I was going to make her a missing person that she left her house and stayed with friends... (Crazy B!...)

Again, a top production. And yes, send me your picture as soon as you can so I can squeeze Warren a bit with the background cactus.

Exactly my reaction Tim. So glad you got a chance to do the grand tour. It is notable. Theirs great talent in this forum. I never stop being amazed, and that also includes your works. Great music all around, is all I can say.

And I hear you on the "Best of 2010". It is difficult and also very delicate in more ways than one. We are a sensitive bunch, whether we admit it or not and I certainly would not want to hurt anyones feelings. Let's see what happens in 2011, and I'm not worried about the available bandwidth on my site, there's lot's of room for many many more excellent productions. This is only the beginning! And thank you for the nice comments on the presentation.

I was a Missing Person and then I went missing from the Cakewalk songs forum. Sorry about that gang. I had a lot of fun doing this project and I thought it was a great idea Robby had and that it was a fine tribute to Ms. April. It was a real honor to be a part of this and to be in the company of such great musicians as Herb, Rick, Julianna, James, Frank, Gary, Warren and Mark from The Pugtones and last, but not least, Robby.

Even though I stopped posting here I never stopped visiting this place and listening to all the fine music. There really are some amazing musicians here. I’m sorry I’ve been away but I needed to spend more time with the family not to mention writing and recording music.  It just takes me forever to write anything whether it be a song or a post.

JC, I checked out your website. You did a really nice job.  Like Janet said, “I’ll never forget that time on the forum”. Please feel free to put my version of Missing Person on your webpage if you like and if you need any thing else I believe you can send me a PM although I still feel that my version isn’t quite as good as the others (listen for the out of tune guitar solo).

Lots of nice tunes up there! I like the presentation - how about making them all downloadable? My download speed isn't great, so I prefer to grab files and listen to them locally rather than streaming them. I hate a chattering data stream, especially when it's a good tune.

I'm also in the process of assembling listening material for my next trans-Pacific flight. I need about 14 hours' worth! I get a lot of my traveling material from folks here on the Songs forum. So even though I don't comment here all that much, I am still out there listening to it all - sometimes 8 miles over the north pole, sometimes under a Mango tree on a tropical island, sometimes in a jeep on a dusty backroad through the jungle. If you guys only knew where your tunes have been!

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

In the meantime I can send you the mp3s where I got an ok for a download and get a permission from the other participants to send a copy your way.

Wow, this must have all been before my time here or I incredibly managed to miss it all.  What a fascinating project with so many great and unique interpertations of the lyrics.

Bless you JC for bringing it all back, and what a superb presentation.  Some really slick and sleak web design work there.

Yeap, I do believe this was a bit before your time Philz. Thanks for the blushing comments on the presentation and the site. I really appreciate it. And yes, the music is great!

If JC isn't careful? He's going to start giving Canadians a good name...

OMG! Canadians?! A good name, eh??!

I happen to know a number of actual Canadians, and aside from being a little snooty about the superiority of their beer, they are a pretty decent bunch.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

I happen to know a number of actual Canadians, and aside from being so cool, humble and polite about the superiority of their very tasteful macho beer (light years ahead of our watered-down imitations), they are an incredibly outstanding bunch.
     Fixed.

    @ Robby

    Sick stuff!
