Nice, Mike - Now that's basically the way I'm accustomed to making groove clips. Except I use my keyboard to play them, quantizing off, editing anything that's too far off the mark, especially at the beginning and end of the clip where the loop can reveal funky timing.
But yes, as you show, making a groove clip can be a very quick and easy thing to do, even with the problematic X1. The key is to plan just a little bit ahead, and create the original material to a click.
That makes Two videos from you which have been helpful for me to watch. Before watching the other one, I honestly hadn't ever thought about people trying to make groove clips out of free time clips. I always considered the whole groove clip thang to be about tight timing, so I hadn't ever considered trying to work the hard way, recording something meant for a groove clip without a metronome.
Intending no criticism, I want to add that UnderTow's suggestion to use a video capture program was a good one. It's been a bit difficult to see everything you want us to see in your videos, and there wouldn't be that problem with a vid cap program. Those programs aren't any more time consuming to use than setting up a camera and taking a picture of a screen, but the results make it much easier to see and understand what someone's trying to demonstrate. I think it'd be great if you broke out your copy of Captivate next time you do a vid.
Thanks for this.
