Timing not in synch when midi synching with external hardware

I have some bass and drum lines on my trusty old Yamaha QY700 sequencer that I want to record onto a midi track in Sonar,but there's discrepancies in timing when midi synching- (sonar appears to run fractionally faster)-and thus my sequenced tracks are out of alignment.Everything is in synch for the first 20 or so bars(measures),but then timing starts to drift.
I have Sonar as master.(I haven't been able to figure out Sonar as slave)
Can latency issues affect midi?
Could real-time quantize help?

    I have done pretty much the same thing, moving sequences from my Triton to Sonar. What did it for me was to put the midi sync on with the keyboard as the master. It is done in the 'project options' tab. Set the clock source to 'midi sync.
     
    The other advice I would give you is to set the tempo to the sequencer tempo. It has worked very well for me.

    Thanks for the reply nph.
    I've already tried setting identical tempos.
    Setting the clock source to midi synch and running Sonar as slave causes Sonar to freeze and then crash!

    Ok,I think I've sorted it now.I had to adjust a few midi parameters in the QY700.
    I haven't run a whole song through Sonar yet,but I'll let you know if timing stays in sych.
