Any registry cleaning or housekeeping need doing before reinstalling?  Any particular quirks?  Tips?  Will I only reap heartache and remorse??

PS: I also have 8.5 on my box and wish to keep it unharmed.

1) Completely un-install SONAR from your computer. This is normally done from Start | Programs | Cakewalk. This will not remove any of your project files or audio data.

2) Next you will want to open the Run Command

a) In Windows XP this can be done by going to Start | Run
 b) In Windows Vista and 7 this can be done by holding down the ‘windows’ key and pressing ‘r’

3) At the prompt type regedit and click OK.

***Backup your Registry before making edits - you do this by clicking the File menu, Export Registry File.

4) Now delete the following Registry keys:
 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR Producer\X1
 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR Producer\X1

*Please note that this will remove any effects presets and key bindings you may have made in Cakewalk. You can back these up separately if you like, using Options|Key Bindings, Tools|SONAR Plug-in Manager, and Options|Colors. Hit F1 in these views for detailed instructions on how to do this.

 5) Open the 'Run' command again.   6) Copy and paste the following into the prompt:   %appdata%\Cakewalk

7) This will open your Cakewalk Application Data folder, right-click on the SONAR folder and choose rename.

 8) Rename this folder SONAR X1 Backup.

  9) Open the 'Run' command again and type msconfig Click OK and then click on the Startup tab at the upper right of the window that opens.

  10) Uncheck all items listed, click OK, then restart your computer. You can always recheck those items again at a later time.

  11) Then reinstall SONAR. Make sure to have any virus scanners disabled on installation. It is not required or recommended to turn off any windows services.

Wow! I am impressed. Thanks for that info.

yorolpal, why the reinstall?

I have my X1 sitting safely in the box it came in. I am holding off until patch x1z is released.

You can thank CW.. I had to do that myself. Worked perfectly , did I notice anything different or has X1 got any better after the clean install  ,, Not Really... not for me at least .. My Advice is --> I'ed just wait till X1b is out.. Should be here in a week or 2 . Then See , but if there's other circumstances , then follow those instructions...

Well, I have to reinstall as no matter what I try (including letting X1 rebuild my aud.ini and TTSSEQ files) X1 has lost all midi input capabilities.  It sees all my controllers and reports no problems...but will not respond at all to any of my controllers.  Something got corrupted during a lengthy and futile attempt to get the new Focusrite VRM box to work with my system.  It plainly does NOT like my M-Audio Fast Track Ultra.  Have reinstalled X1 and am now downloading X1a.  I'll keep ya posted.  Thanks so much for the info dj, ol pal!

I wish this thread had been active a few days ago.

I did a quick uninstall then reinstall to reactivate the metronome (which now works), but I can't bounce any audio now with the control bar showing. Weird thing is, I realize how unimportant the control bar actually is now.

Good luck getting your new rig going yoropal. It's damn annoying when you've got some new stuff and you can't get it to go.

Back to normal now.  Had to completely remove the VRM.  Clean the registry.  Uninstall X1.  Clean the registry.  Reinstall X1 and X1a.  Resetup X1.
